Hello to everyone,

We are prearing to move from the UK to Winterthur and have been avid readers of the Forum, so thanks to all for the valuable information. We are a Portuguese couple which lived in England for a few years and moving by the 1st of Feb. We are looking to meet people and integrate in the community as we don't speak German!

Re: Moving to Winterthur, ZH

We will be moving to the Winterthur area as well later this year. That is, if we find house or apartment. Any advice you can give me? Not that much available in Winterthur itself on homegate.

Regards,

Machiel Zwanenburg

Re: Moving to Winterthur, ZH

Mzwanenburg, I have been living in Winterthur for 4.5 years and really love here (lived in Luzern for 7 years before). Personally I live in Oberwinterthur near Hegi and I will suggest this area as well. There is a big park, an international school, althought there is not much shopping possibility nearby but you can reach Winterthur city in about 10 minutes with public transport. Because of the international school, this area lives also a lot of english speaking family. Hope this can help you with your apartment hunting.

Winterthur is great ...

It's also small, easy to get around and has excellent bus and train services. So when using homegate don't limit your search to Winterthur city ... try putting in post codes starting with 84?? and it will come up with more towns in vicinity too, giving you an idea on prices.

Seen, Hegi, Oberwinterthur, Mattenbach.. all good, and all considered "Winterthur".

Towns nearby - many - also all good and usually lower rent and taxes than Winterthur.

It is generally important to live near public transport ... only way to go really. Good luck!

There is also a yahoo group, a meetup group (both expats-in-winterthur) and www.internationalclub.ch

These sites have links to the numerous international and bi lingual schools.

Wintherthur is a very nice city, but it's quite far away from the mountains, which is a big thing for me...
