Hope to know you all. | | | | | Ni hao! I used to study in Beijing and loved it. I have forgotten a lot of my Chinese now and haven't been to Beijing since 2004 but it's a fabulous city (apart from the pollution!). I'd love to see what it's like since the Olympics. I hear it's completely different now. Hope you're enjoying Switzerland. I'm about to move to Zurich.

Thank you everyone for your welcome! | | | | | Yes I know your city.

Prices went up (in real terms, and against sterling as the exchange rate was 15:1 in 2006 and now it's 10:1), more hutongs were chai'd (demolished) and public transport got much better.
Buses are cheaper (0.4y with a "yikatong" pass), more metro lines, and a train from the new airport which (almost) connects well with the metro.
Some areas became bland (looking at you, Nanluoguxiang) but new areas popped up to take their place (Wudaoying).
I love Beijing. Apart from a rise in prices and increase in traffic, it's just as cool and "different" and exciting as it was before the Olympics. In my opinion.

Some of your characters are wrong (I know it's not your fault; it's the MS pinyin thing) and maybe your grammar is off, but then I'm not fluent so it could be me ... | Quote: | | | | Welcome to Switzerland. Six months ago I visited Beijing and Chengdu with my girlfriend. Sorry, my Mandarin isn't so hot; I can speak it ok but not read or write well. I'm American and my gf is Swiss. Coincidentally, I also stayed in Chengdu for 7 years, studying in a university there.
I watched once a tv program in China about a couple, the husband from America and wife from Switzerland, they opened a shop in Beijing selling T shirts designed by themselves. What is more, the husband also stayed in Shanghai for some time before he moved to Beijing. Is that you two? |
