Colorado to Basel (maybe)

Hi, all! My husband's in the midst of the interview process that a job that would relocate us from Colorado to Basel, so I've been browsing the forums as we try to figure out whether it's a move we'd want to make. Incredibly grateful for all the info, though it can all be a little overwhelming. We're probably moving somewhere, so we'll be heading away from friends and family regardless, but of course an international move would be even more complicated.

Anyway, since I've been poring over the forums, thought I'd pop in and say hi; I'm sure you'll see me ask some questions down the road, as well.

Re: Colorado to Basel (maybe)

hello there,

Switzerland is great, I highly recommended it! I moved to the Bern area from Boulder Colorado this past summer. If you have any questions about life, let me know. What does your husband do that requires such a move? What part of Colorado are you from?

Re: Colorado to Basel (maybe)

Hello, I'm another Colorado (Denver) to Switzerland person. Colorado and Switzerland have many similarities (mountains, very active and outdoorsy popolation, natural beauty, fairly similar climates/seasons, etc.). We enjoy it very much here. Best of luck.

I completely agree with mochamax. I am from Switzerland but spent a summer in Denver /Boulder University. You will feel at home here....Only that everything is much smaller (except mountains) and maybe there is a stronger feeling of security. Good luck for the move and the decision.

Re: Colorado to Basel (maybe)

So similar, and yet so different. When friends from near Granby pestered us to go and visit them, I used to say- what is the point- we have plenty of mountains here! Our first visit about 15 years ago was in Summer - and I was amazed at how different the flowers, birds, wildlife, etc, were. On the other hand downtown Winterpark is hardly Heidi style! Our next 2 visits were during winter, for skiing- and again we were very surprised at the differences. The tree line is much higher in CO for isntance. Our friend was a piste Ambassador- and we were very lucky to get free passes - loved it.
Hope you'll really enjoy the scenery here - some of the small resort have chalets which date from the 1700- a novelty for you!

Hi itsagirl. What an exciting prospect! I am preparing to move to Basel soon but have already been fortunate enough to visit its very special carnaval (Fasnacht). That is probably a bonus compared to life "back home". Good luck.

Re: Colorado to Basel (maybe)

Thanks so much everyone!! Husband is in pharma and the local scene has completely dried up with the economic downturn, so we're excited to maybe have a possibility in such a nice place. He will be flying out for a second interview at one of the Basel pharma companies, so fingers crossed.

@Sbstreett: We'd be moving from Louisville w/a 9yo girl. Small world! Will def PM you if things come through!
