Re: Any Hungarians out there?

Hey Ian,
My boyfriend is hungarian, we both work/live in bern, I would love to meet other hungarian people that would help me learn magyar. I just told him about the hungarian stall in zurich and we are already planning a visit. maybe we could organize some activity sometime.

Re: Any Hungarians out there?

Szia Iain,

You really can't swing a cat in here without hitting a Hungarian. They just blend in pretty well. You'll probably hear Hungarian on the street, if you keep your ears out for it.

There's a great gathering every so often of Hungarians in Basel (look for Magyar Klub on iwiw) with music and dancing and food and lots of great people.

Welcome to Basel.

[QUOTE=Scouse;1117061]Hi Iain,

I am Hungarian and me wife is English.

I have to know, if you're the Hungarian, why is your nickname Scouse? Is there a story there? :-)

Hi Sara,

Good luck with the Hungarian learning! As you will know, it's a tricky one alright. Shamefully I've rather given up... German first...

Not been to Zurich yet since I've been here, but I think that's a lovely idea. When I'm a little more settled here and trips are on our horizon (beyond the necessary settling in kind in Basel) I will certainly let you know.

I see Scouse, that makes sense.

you're not a closet Everton / Liverpool supporter then? Though the 'Pool have had a couple of Hungarians in their ranks lately..

Re: Any Hungarians out there?

hi Iain -- another Hungarian here --my wife that is :-)

We're living near ZŘrich, and have been in Switzerland about 5.5 years. I like living here, my wife a bit less. I just comfort her by saying we don't need to live here forever :-). In a few years we'll most certainly move on.

I'm Dutch, learning Hungarian and it's a great feeling of very-very slowly progressing with this hermetic language. It's really easy actually: never give up learning and don't be put off by its difficulty. That's the worst excuse for not starting to learn it. You'll see that quite quickly you'll have quite a large vocabulary and be able to make short sentences.

Indeed in and around ZŘrich you quite often here Hungarian eg in a tram, in a supermarket etc etc. It's a language that is easy on the ear in my view, , i like it much better than the harsh-sounding slavish languages Hungary is surrounded by.

Good luck with settling in in Basel!

Harsh-sounding slavish languages Hungary is surrounded by? I wonder what could those be..
Welcome among those with Hungarian partners, though!

Re: Any Hungarians out there?

Oops - it seems I've not kept up with this thread since suggesting the stall in Zurich.

Are there any more meets planned in Basel where there'll be more Hungarians?

Also - is anybody aware of where we might get Hungarian produce a little closer to home here in Basel? There seems to be a lack and I'm considering options around wholesale import and becoming a reseller...

Re: Any Hungarians out there?

Hi Karmi,
I half live in Basel and Sydney... my girlfriend works here in Basel. Hard to meet anyone as I don't speak Swiss German, only English and Hungarian. maybe one day when you're settled in we can meet you and partner.

Hi Emese,
I half live in Basel and Sydney... my girlfriend works here in Basel. Have a bike back in Oz (Buell). What's the riding like here... good I'd imagine except for the coppers.

Hi everyone!
Another Hungarian here! I live in Luzern (Kriens). I'd be happy to meet with other people from this area (not just Hungarians of course).
