I'm sure there are, or plenty who would come out of the woodwork if you lead from the front and arrange a social event on the calendar. It's very easy:
  • Select a venue / location
  • Call ahead and reserve a table or two
  • Put as much info on the calendar as to where, when, who, how etc.
  • Transport details
  • Repeat until it's a regular event
It may seem a bit daunting, especially if you don't know anyone, but a simple event can turn into a steady social event from such 'little acorns'. The RSVP facility allows others to see who else is coming, generates a bit of buzz and encourages the timid.

Marriages and babies have resulted from such activity elsewhere, but settle for a few drinks and a nice night out to start with
