Luzern calling

Hullo there! A new englishforumeer just landing in Luzern from sunny Spain, still struggling to find my way around the town and all this 'find-an-apt' mess. I am 32 and for the last few years I've been working in internet marketing jobs in Spain and The Netherlands. The plan now says to settle in this beautiful Swiss spot for some years, looks exciting! So, if there's anybody around for some fun and maybe a basketball game, just tell!

Hasta la vista!

Re: Luzern calling

Welcome to Luzern, the finest city in Switzerland.

Although I'm a tall chap, I don't play basketball, so I'll be giving that a miss.

I see from the profile that you're spanish, you may be pleased to know that there's some sort of spanish social club, unfortunately, not being spanish, I don't know how to google it, but I've been there a couple of times during the world cup. It's by the Schuur (a concert venue/nightclub).

Welcome! We're in Stans (10 minutes drive to the south) but it's not that far so let us know if you need anything. Your countrymen were very hospitable to me when I lived in Madrid and I'd be happy to return the favour.

Whereabouts are you from?

Re: Luzern calling

Welcome Jotabege to the forum and lovely Luzern .

I always enjoy visiting Luzern. It's a beautiful place . . . There's a really nice, small pubby type place in the center that we stumbled upon during one visit whilst wandering around the Old Town. Now if only I could remember the name?!

Have been to Madrid and had an absolute blast! Not sure if we slept much, if at all, during that visit however due to all the action! .

Re: Luzern calling

Ooops had missed to check and answer my 'introduction' post in the EF!

@cyrus: I'll try to find that place! Thanx for the tip!

@swissoconnors: I come from Caceres, a very beautiful and small city in the not-so-well-known region of Extremadura, in western Spain.

@ishaka: I'm so glad to hear you had a pleasant time in Madrid, I lived myself in that crazy city for some time. I guess for me it's time for some Swiss quiet pleasantness now

Thanx everyone for such a warm welcome! I'll keep reading you guys!

Re: Luzern calling

Funnily enough I've actually been to Caceres. Truly beautiful, as you said, and Mérida is lovely too. Although last time I was in Mérida they were digging up some of the roads because they'd found interesting ruins underneath, so it was a bit messy in the centre! (Yeah that was quite a while ago.)

Anyway have fun in Luzern!

Michaela

Re: Luzern calling

Welcome to Luzern! Ive been here 3 years now and love it. I suspect youve find the pub in altstadt by now, but if not its probably Pickwicks (by the river) thats beeing reffered to. Its a nice pub with a lot of foreigners, allthough a lot of turists too.

An expat "secret" is Legends bar on Löwenstrasse. It aint big but cozy and thats where a lot of us expats usually hang out in the evenings. Owner Billy is super friendly too. Just stop by for a beer and start talking to anyone!

Welcome Amigo, I've got a friend whose second name is Caceras! He is Guatamalan..

Luzern is cool, just in time for this place to bloom for the summer when it is by far the best place for everything...

Re: Luzern calling

Wow! This welcome post is getting warmer and warmer!

@ swissoconnors: So funny you've been to Caceres, Michael! it's pretty much off thetrack for the mainstream tourist, you know. Glad you liked it... And yeah, it's still the same with Merida -and I guess it will be, since the new town was built right on the ruins of the old, roman city and it's impossible to dig a meter without bumping into some valuable stuff.

@ swedishguy: I've already tried Pickwicks myself and just took good note of the 'Legends bar'. hey, there's a legion of "swedish guys" in my office, I wonder if you're one of them

@ transition: haha so funny about your friend's name, actually it's a pretty common family name across the hispanic world. Thanx a lot, amigo!

@anne008: Thanx a lot, I'm sure I will! Are you from Luzern as well?

Again, thanks to all who replied, it's very sweet to be welcomed in a new town when everything looks unknown. Catch ya all later!

Re: Luzern calling

No worries, it actually happens a lot!
I don't think I'd have been to Caceres if we didn't have friends in Mérida. But I'm very glad I did. I want to go back - but not in August this time! It's waaay too hot down there.
Have you found the Spanish bookshop in Luzern yet... if it's still there. It was on Baselstrasse, I think. I don't know what prices are like. You can also get some Spanish stuff at Stocker in the centre, just in case you get really desperate for new reading matter en castellano.

Re: Luzern calling

Herzlich wilkommen in Luzern. Few hours ago, we took a refreshing walk along the shores of the lake, dipped our feet in the frosty waters believing in remedial effect. We were stunned with beauty of the place and were amazed how gorgeous the whole town is.

Re: Luzern calling

Great that you did! One thing I always wonder about is why do we allow visitors coming to Caceres (actually the whole region of Extremadura) in our un-breathable summer heat. I have met countless people telling me terrible stories about almost fainting under the stone-melting summer sun in Merida. What kind of experience are we letting tourists bring back home? Actually it should be forbidden!

Thanx for the spanish bookshop tip!

I'm often in Gracies, it's the Rugby this weekend, though my other half has planned her Birthday party at the same time as the England match....
