I have an interview in Fribourg for a PhD on Thursday 14th of April.
So, I was wondering could you suggest somethings for me to do while there, later that night after the interview?
Hey Steo, only just saw this so apologies for late response. I'm not actually working tomorrow night so if you want I can show you around a bit. Will drop you a pm.
How's your french/german outta curiosity?

He said to look up fri-son.ch. Also bars called, le Center, and Vantiem.
Just to clarify, I believe Vantiem would be XXe (how you would pronounce 20th in french) and le Center I believe is le Cintra.
XXe (www.xxe.ch) has generally a young student crowd (though not exclusively) in their early 20's. Cintra from my experience generally has an older crowd, late 20's all the way up.
XXe has dj's the weekends(with live music occasionally on wednesdays) while le cintra has live music more often. Haven't been there much but have seen some blues/jazz gigs there.

Fri-son would be something akin to vicar street or whelans in Dublin with a good mix of dj's and live music (along with other things like ping pong nights etc ).

Hello everyone!

I'm from here, a genuine swiss girl!! Just back from traveling in Australia and New Zealand. I had a great time down under and enjoyed speaking english! I'm worried about losing all my knowledge hardly acquired by stoping praticing english...
They speak english down in Oz and NZ? News to me!

I've been promising to organise an event for over a month now and since my moving of apartment is finally done I guess I should get to it. Unfortunately i'm working pretty much every weekend for the rest of the month but maybe I can organise something light next wednesday. Will throw it up on the events page and see if we get any numbers. Might be too short notice though for a first event.

I've tentatively arranged to meet Steo in Paddy Reilly's for a beer tomorrow night after his interview. If anyone else wants to join us, feel free. We might even drop into XX for a beer or 2 (never actually been in there, funnily enough)

I wasn't there on Friday, but I asked last night. Apparently one of the disco lights exploded or something. Not a fire as such, but they had to evacuate and the police and Fire Brigade were summoned.

Re: Looking for friends in Fribourg

Disco light exploded? Bleh disappointing. I arrived around 1am to find two fire trucks and the police blocking entry to the area. Rumours were rife as to what happened but no one I spoke to seemed to know.

Cheers for clearing it up anyway.

Hi Vlate (and welcome back and here) - there's still a few left ... so I hear.

Attachment 25655

.... and remember, if/when you do meet someone for a drink, it's OK to be a bit late but not v.late.

P.S. It might be better to post under Introductions as "you're" a bit lost tagging onto this thread as a first post - some people respond more frequently on Introduction threads.
Thanks for the advises!! Will try to not be to swiss about the ponctuality... =)

Hello everyone!

Hi Vlate. Welcome to the EF. I hope you had a great time down under, and met some genuine Australians. Good luck keeping up the English. Findind this site is a step in the right direction. For me Iam not into the city life, but visit alot of the small villages around Fribourg. May be you can try to orginise something and see who is out there. I wish you all the best.
Kev.
Hello Aussie you! I'd like to hear you about your home sweet Oz home! I had such an amazing time there!! I'm a bit busy with my new job at the time... so, it's difficult to organize a hiking event. But I'll try to make that up in a close futur!! I'll have a week holiday for Easter in 2 weeks... I'll let you know at this time!!
No worries!!! =)

Hello you guys!! (M.jorfi, Millso, PaddyG,...)

Finally it seems we are a few interested by having an english meeting!! That's good to know!! As I wrote in the thread "event" organized by Millso, it's easier for me to meet up during the week-end.... Or in the day during the week (early afternoon before work). So, don't hesitate to let me know if some of you are going for a drink!! I'd enjoy joining you!! =)

You can park either under the Fribourg Centre, or under Manor. If you're lucky, there might be a spot in Grand Place, but unlikely. No darts I'm afraid . Not sure about time, haven't heard back from Steo yet, but I won't be out before 8.30ish since wifey is working till 7.30.

Re: Looking for friends in Fribourg

If this goes ahead tonight I'll probably drop in after 9.30. Training has been moved to tonight (though might be cancelled/ moved again, who knows to be honest) and before I get home and shower it should be around 9.30.

I'm leaving shortly, Steo hasn't been in touch yet. Then again, I've never needed an excuse to go to the pub before.

Re: Looking for friends in Fribourg

After a nightmare few days at work, I'm having a quiet one so won't be making it tonight.....

...will PaddyG be all alone?
...will Steo make it? (or be suffering too much after his first Fribourgeous Fondue?)
...will Millso's legs carry him?

...the suspense is killing me!

well, I was there to help celebrate Benfica's progression with my Portuguese mate, and spent the night chatting to some other buddies.

No-one else appeared to have made it.

Re: Looking for friends in Fribourg

To paddyg and others,

I've replied to your PMs.
Because the interview etc went on for quite some time I didn't get a chance to check my emails at all that day, so I had no idea and couldn't get in touch!

Sorry about that lads, but if I'm ever back in Fribourg (fingers crossed!) then I will definitely give you all a shout.

Cheers for that btw, you're all very friendly!

Steo
