| | A Finn in Lausanne Hello all! I’ve read this forum thoroughly in the last couple of days and I’ve noticed many things that are puzzling me about Switzerland have been discussed here in one way or another. Brilliant! Looks like I am not alone with my struggles trying to “fit in”. I’m originally from Finland but I’ve also lived in UK & Australia for a few years. I ended up in Lausanne when my Portuguese fiancé scored a job there. I uprooted myself to join him 2 months ago. Little did I know what was ahead! I speak no French and find everyday life somewhat challenging because of that. My fiancé, however, feels almost at home as the Portuguese are everywhere. He hasn’t spoken this much Portuguese in 5 years! At the moment we’re trying to settle in and find a flat. Everyone in this forum knows how that is, I’m sure, so I’ll not bore you with the details. Long story short, I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone. I come in peace and mean no harm. -mmmilk- |

Welcome!! I hope you fit in quickly! Learning the language would help quite a lot, and also the lessons you could meet some people in your same situation .)
Greetings from Kuopio!

Wow, thanks everyone for your welcoming words! Cheered me up a lot reading all these posts (currently I'm trying to shake off a cold under my duvet). | Quote: | | | | | Welcome!! I really want to be able to understand what is going around me, I dislike living in a bubble and I certainly don't expect the locals switching to English.
It's really just my luck ending up in the French speaking area when I only speak some German and have most of my local contacs living around Zürich... Ah well! Luckily, it's a country with short distances... |
