New and lonely in Tramelan (over the hill from Biel)

View Post
Hi there!

My name is Renee and I have just moved to Tramelan (20 mins from Biel) from Canada to work as a Dental Hygienist for a year. I was referred to the forum by my friends (Jane & Chris) who also use the forum.

I've spent some time in Zurich with them which I love, but Tramelan is quite remote and secluded and I have a feeling its going to be a long year!
Thankfully, I have a pretty postive attitude and I think I will be able to make the best of it. I'm pretty active, easygoing and up for almost anything. (I like soccer, volleyball, kickboxing, hiking, snowboarding, yoga, music, travel, wine etc.) If you're in the Biel area, please msg me!!!

Renee
Hello! I'm conscious that this posts are from two years ago and maybe no one reads me.....

I'm in the same situation as yours RenMC..... I was afraid that this place could be like that, and it is it. I just came here from Spain a week ago and I'm already missing hanging out with people. I'm 24 years old and I came here as an au pair... I live really in Mont Tramelan. I would like to meet some people who with do some things.... I'm going to french lessons in Biel. You would think that I could go out with my class mates.... but they are all older than me, are married and have babies... this means no plans.... I like hiking, swimming and biking. So if someone reads this and could give me solutions... information, advice... whatever!! it will be appreciated!

Thanks!!

Re: Tramelan.. I know you probably dont know where that is!!!!

Hey Sasun, welcome to the forum, Switzerland, and Tramelan!
I think that Tramelan is quite close to me, I'm in a small village in les franches montagnes...
I have a baby, but I'm not old and married, and still like to go out and have a life! send me a message if you want to meet up some time!

Re: New and lonely in Tramelen (over the hill from Biel)

Welcome to the Forum

I've separated your post from the thread you added it to. Everyone is entitled to their own little bit of room here. Enjoy it - everything else you write might get deleted, merged, moved or simply sink into oblivion. Mods are merciless.

Seriously, Tramelan is really not the centre of the Universe, even if living in a beautiful area can be refreshing after a city. Hope you manage to meet up with others soon.

Hello Sasun,
Welcome in the region, It is always a little bit difficult to arrive somewhere ( Tramelan, London or Sydney...) and it takes some time before it feels home and you have made friends.
I am sure, you'll meet more young people around Bienne in your situation. We have an au pair since few weeks at home, She is also taking french couses, I'll tell here to come on your post.
Being myself in the cathegory older than you, married and with babies, I can still recommend to come to Biel on Thursday evening, generaly speaking the city is quite alive then...
Take care

Hi Sasun,

I'll be in Neuchâtel from late April onwards and would definitely be keen for some hiking, swimming and biking on weekends (though settling in to work will probably keep me pretty busy for the first couple of months). I'm 27, female, single, no babies!

Maybe you could make it to one of the English Forum meetups in Neuchâtel as well - looks like Tramelan is not TOO far away.

Re: New and lonely in Tramelan (over the hill from Biel)

Hallo!
I am brand new to English Forum and new to Biel as well! I am living right downtown in Biel and have lots of free time on my hands. I have a boyfriend, but no babies. I love hiking, biking, movies, coffee, wine, or just general exploring and taste testing cheese

Hope you are finding your way around and are willing to show me what you've learned, haha.
All the best, Danielle

Re: New and lonely in Tramelan (over the hill from Biel)

As said above, get in touch with the Neuchatel group - and go to one of their Friday evening meets. Maybe one of the others there can offer you a bed for the night so you don't have to get back same night. The Jura is a fabulous place for nature, hiking and normally ... skiing/skating - but the winter has been a bit of a disaster on that front. Anyway, welcome and hope you find friends soon.

Re: New and lonely in Tramelan (over the hill from Biel)

Hello and welcome to Tramelan resp. Biel Sasun and Danielleley

My hometown has lots to offer but sometimes one only spots it at second glance ......

Yesterday the Carnaval started here and will last until Sunday, the city will come alive and people are out and celebrating the next such big even will be in Summer when the 'Braderie' will take place......

If i can be of asstistance in regards to questions about Biel etc ...feel free to drop me a line...unfortunately i am also one of those 'oldies' though my kids are already teenagers.......

Cheers
