| | Job interview
Hi there folks
Im new here to this forum. On the 16-03-11 I have to travel to Zurich from Dublin and then travel to Nussbaumen 5415 for a job interview and I was wondering what would be the best way to travel to Nussbaumen, I got taxi prices and they are around 80 to 95 euro. Is there trains that go there from Zurich airport, time is of the essence as I only have around 1 hour from landing to have interview.
many thanks
Liamer

Liamer | | | | | One hour ? Taxi. They must be paying expenses surely ? Journey times on the train are longer than one hour. Doubtful for a taxi too. You should really fly out the day before or change your flight to an earlier flight.

If the plane lands on time

Try http://www.sbb.ch/en/ for train enquiries
Or Google maps, and get directions using the public transport option.
But it seems to me that you are cutting it a bit fine. If it's a job you want, then as someone said, travel out the day before, or get an earlier flight. Why put extra pressure on yourself? You want to arrive at the interview relaxed and self-confident, not harrassed and red-faced. And anyway, it looks to me that you won't get there in time with your current arrangement, which won;t look good.
If you can't change your travel plan, call the company and ask for a later appointment.

1 hour is probably too close.
You can use maps.google.com to see how long it will take you with train or car.
At what time of the day does the plane land?
Depending on traffic or road-blocks, it might even take a full hour by car (google advertises 27 minutes).
Either you arrange for a 2h buffer or come here a day earlier.
As you don't need accommodation in Zurich directly, it will be a bit cheaper. http://www.hrs.de
Around 100€ and no stress.

Are you man enough to ask, nay DEMAND, that they interview you at the airport?

Liamer | | | | | Hi Liam,
Welcome to the forum! Look there is simply no way that this going to happen for you, even if the plane lands on time, there is just no way to cover that distance in the time given. You need to make other arrangements. See if you can move the interview to the 18th perhaps, that way you could fly in on the evening of the 17th, over night in Baden and fly home late on Friday evening.
good luck,
Jim.

Liamer | | | | | Hi Liam! Welcome to the EF! One thing you need to understand about Switzerland is that punctuality is a matter of extreme importance here. I lived in Ireland as a child and I'm from the US. Before I arrived in the German part of Switzerland your plan would have sounded just fine to me. Now that I've lived here 7 months it makes me shriek in horror!! Literally! To be even 3 or 4 minutes late is of great offense in this culture and will reflect on you most negatively. So, as Jim said, you're just never going to make it to the interview on time, because in Switzerland "on time" is being there, coat off, relaxed and ready 5 minutes before. Insane, I know and I'm still having a really really really hard time with this, but what's a couple minutes in the US or Ireland is a catastrophic, fatal error here, especially when your first impression is at stake.
So, reschedule the flight and best of luck!! I hope you land the job!

Hi Liamer!
I'm always optimistic about the amount of time it takes to get from one place to another... so I have a lot of very patient friends who have sat waiting for me over the years...
But when it comes to airports I try to leave a wider margin for delays.
If your plane delays taking off, getting permission to land or whatever, you must realize even if on time it will take you ages to get from plane seat to arrivals then down to the train station or taxi rank... If you don't know the airport well, a bit extra... You cannot do all that in about an hour even if there is a train that coincides or no traffic jams if you take a taxi (traffic can be mad at times!).
Your bravery in attempting the feat may not be rewarded by getting the job.
For your own sake fly in the day before or see if they could give you an interview a couple of hours later? | The following 2 users would like to thank mabern for this useful post: | |

ok folks thanks so much for all your help i really appreciate it, i wil try and answer all your points here.
As i said earlier I told the company the time i can travel,, as there was only one half early flight going there. They then came back with the time for the meeting, but you are ALL right why run in there wearing a suit (which Im not used to wearing ) all stressed out and freaked. so Im going to mail them now ad tell them of my concerns.
"fingerscrossed" you gave me a good idea maybe they could meet me in the airport??
Thanks again for all your replies
Liam

I can't believe that they didn't mention, that your schedule would be very tight.
It's setting yourself up for failure. I would celebrate your son's birthday when you return, after getting the job. Then he can have two birthday parties, which I'm sure he wouldn't mind

What is your list of concerns ? Be careful what you do as they are very picky in Switzerland with comments and not being on time.
If you can't make it earlier then save yourself the money of flying over as the won't take no for an answer.
Sadly enough its not as handy as in Ireland, not that jobhunting was that easy but it's different.
Remember they are very strict here and rules do apply all over the place.
I do hope however it works out for you,
Good luck and safe travels
Joey
