In order to be able to post in the market place, you need to have been a member for a week (maybe 10 days? I forget) AND you also need to have 10 "counted" posts... I believe any place aside from the Off-Topic section will count.
Perhaps in browsing through the other topics, you may find something you have some experience with yourself and can provide some insight into.
Once you've settled in some, you may wish to join in some of the things others of us here in Basel get ourselves into. Take a peek down at the Events section, you'll see that as we get into Spring, we Baslers tend to come out of our hovels a bit. Whether your interest is in running or other athletic abilities (wall climbing, football, rugby), I believe there are clubs for that. There are book clubs, some parent-and-baby groups, lots and lots.
Also, if there is something you're interested in but don't see, maybe make an event / invite some folks along, you never know, others may be interested also but have been too shy to say.  |

welcome to Basel. I moved here in January - still haven't made any friends yet. I lived the last 8 years in Chicago (I am originally from Germany). Switzerland and the US are VERY different - so I am still trying to get use to everything.
Well hope you'll have more luck meeting new people ....

Welcome to Basel! I'm pretty new here too- 5 weeks in now. In fact we all seem a bit new on this thread!
So I'm gonna propose a newbie meet up- some time next week? Let's suggest Wednesday at first- anyone have any preferences? I know we're supposed to set up an event but maybe at first this way is easier :-)
I'm also gonna suggest Cafe Des Arts on Barfusserplatz as that's pretty easy to get to from most places and easy to find if ur new!!
Any responses or other suggestions happily received- would be good to meet some people outside of work!

How about Tuesday or Thursday instead?
Café des Arts would be a good place to meet!
Would be great to finally meet some of all the Newbies (myself included) here in Basel, so hope it can be any other day than Wednesday.

Karaoke on Friday: Karaoke... Of Course...in BaSeL
Saturday Social on Saturday: Basel Saturday Social
Plus there other events happening regularly or semi-regularly. Check the events calendar. We are happy to have you here!

Welcome to Basel newbies!! Yes, it takes a while but you get into it as much as you want to, just like anywhere else....
Hmm...Thursday night is also the meeting of German conversation group at Cafe des Arts, but maybe if you have zero German then it is best to just socialize with the other newbies
have fun and see you around sometime... Basel is smaller than you think!
