Hi all
Our names are Paul and Carrie..I guess that's obvious I am Carrie and I'm a PhD student currently completing my thesis in Microbial Ecology. My fiance Paul is a chemist working for Clariant. He worked for them for 10yrs in the UK and was offered relocation to their headquarters in Reinach. We didn't hesitate! Paul is originally from South Africa but has been in the UK since he was a kid. I'll be looking for work just as soon as my Viva has been done..watch out Uni Basel
We live in Grellingen with our baby..ahem..dog Martha (a miniature Schnauzer) and we've been here for a couple of months. Just on the waiting list for the German lessons his company has fronted for us. I have a bit of high-school German but we can get by. We do our best to speak German where we can but I think many Swiss find our poor language either funny or annoying so our main aim is to get to grips with the culture and language, so we can integrate as quickly as possible.
We love exploring this beautiful country, and so far have had very few bad experiences, many good ones. We're enjoying the amazing city of Basel (especially the food!). We'd like to make friends with as many English and German speakers as possible..currently the only people we know are Paul's workmates.

Hi Carrie, welcome to Switzerland! I also live in Grelligen, (since last Aug) so if you fancy a coffee somewhere nearby just drop me a line! Sorry to hear about your incident with the dog, I walk in the forest here most days (don't have a dog though) and haven't encountered anything like that before, though I have seen one crazy woman, with a crazy dog but she controlled him ok, (not sure if it's the same one though!) good luck with sorting it out.
