New in Zurich

Hello all,

I am finally getting a chance to introduce myself. I have just moved to Zurich for work and hope to be able to explore Switzerland's beautiful mountains, hills, lakes.. by foot, bike, board?? and meet new people.

I love the outdoors... although not originally from Ireland, I spent most of my life there and have always lived near the sea..east or westcoast. I enjoy most sports, mainly watersports and mountainbiking. Since catching waves here in Switzerland seems pretty unlikely , I would love to try some windsurfing.

I look forward to meeting some of you here on the Forum..and maybe on upcoming adventures

You may find this thread useful for finding a wave here in Switzerland.

Basically the options for Swiss water board sports are:

limited Windsurfing or Kitesurfing (only one of the lakes..... some are 'verboten' (but get used to that))

River Surfing at Bremgarten (like the English garden in Munich... but smaller)

Rope or Bungee surfing off many of the bridges around the place on the rivers.

Wake surfing / boarding

Cable ski (but that's just over the boarder in Germany).

oh, and hello and welcome.

Re: New in Zurich

Welcome to the Forum!!! As Billhardie already mentioned, windsurfing is forbidden / restricted on most lakes. But if you want to do wakeboarding on Zurig lake, there are many options actually. It's just not the cheapest sport. Just make sure you start after 8 AM on weekdays and 9 AM on weekends (rowers like me will appreciate that a lot! Haha).
If you like mountainbiking, give a shout!
CU around!
Andy

Re: New in Zurich

Hey, I am moving to Zurich very shortly with my family as well. I am originally from Dublin, but have been living in Frankfurt for last three years. Looking forward to something new and different in Switzerland!
