Hi Everyone,

Thought I'd introduce and tell you a little about myself.

I am 44 and live here in Basel, Switzerland with my husband who is working here. I work from home so it makes no difference where I am and I make frequent trips back to the UK.

Despite being here for about a year, I still don't know anyone although I do say hello to the neighbours. I speak very little German and French which doesn't help; my own fault, I know.

I travel a lot, which I enjoy. I am learning Spanish. I try to keep fit.

I have three grown up children.

I look forward to "chatting".

Welcome to EF and welcome to Basel. The folks 'round here are a friendly bunch.

Keep an eye on the Events Calendar. There's usually something happening around Basel. For example there is the monthly Curry Night next week.

If you go to one of the events then you'll be quickly absorbed into the Basel social group and you'll wonder where all your free time went.

Nicki, welcome to EF and to Basel... I was a bit like you at first, took a year or so before I "found" the forum and started getting to know folks.

So far as the learning Spanish bit goes, I've found that my familiarity with Spanish - even though I never "learned" it, some simply comes by osmosis when living in Florida - has helped in conversation with some folks around here (including my mother in law) due to the similarity of some words to Portuguese, French or Italian. So, don't worry, it's not too terrible, it WILL help in some cases.
