| | Moving to Bern from USA with baby on the way
Hi all,
I'm a U.S. citizen moving to Bern at the end of May. My boyfriend and I are expecting our first baby in August. I'm a newspaper reporter obsessed with hiking, travel, writing and, now, with learning all about this little one. Am looking forward to learning the ropes, the language, meeting new people and starting this new life in my new home.
Cheers,
Tara

Welcome to the Swiss Capital, willkommen in Bern...
... and as you seem to be hungry to learn new things: Berne = Bärn in swiss german.

taramc13 - welcome to the forum - you will find most folks are in good moods when they reply to introductions and most other posts! Hope all is going well with the pregnancy - there are always others around who are pregnant as well and there may even be a group that gets together (we just started a new one in Zurich so not much help for you, but do a search on the forum and see what comes up!)
Good luck with settling in | The following 4 users would like to thank caninsui for this useful post:

Welcome and congrats! Like you, I will be relocating from the US in a couple of months (I am headed to Geneva). Please know that in my experience, I have found the forum to be a wonderful resource as I prepare for my move. Most members are patient and kind to us Noobs, as long as we do a good job of researching our questions prior to posting them to make sure they have not already been answered! There is a wealth of info in the Family Matters section on pregnancy, childbirth, and child-rearing in Switzerland which I am sure you will find most helpful.
I second what caninsui said about most folks being friendly! Hang around awhile and you will see! | The following 3 users would like to thank Textoch for this useful post:

hope you enjoy Bern... we've been here for 4 years and like it very much. also, this forum is helpful and most people are really very nice despite the odd crank here and there.
in bern, you might also want to check out the american women's club of bern.
lots of good health care here too, tho i have no experience with childbirth...
best of luck with your move.

Welcome, I hope you will like Switzerland. Congrats on the little one on the way! I have no kids yet, but I have a feeling getting ready for a baby here is going to be diff. than it would be in the states. My biggest concern is not being able to find a bedding scheme I will like! lol, you would think I'd be worried about more pressing matters but I guess we'll see when the time comes. But if you have a particular "theme" you want your baby's room to be, maybe you should get it there and bring it with you.
Where in the states are you from?
