| | Moving to Vaud in July
Hi,
We are moving to Vaud in July, and the relocation agent is suggesting the following areas:
Pully, Lutry, Epalinges, Lausanne, Le Mont, St Sulpice, Vevey, Montreux, Morges
We have 2 young children, aged 2 and 5 and am hoping to start them in the Swiss system, as I really want to be part of the local community as I speak French and am hoping that it will be possible to integrate us, although I know this won't happen easily - am prepared to make lots of effort!
We are looking for somewhere with playgrounds, swings, playgroups, swimming pool, and basically lots of open areas for the children - as well as some local shops to buy day-to-day groceries etc.
Can anyone advise? I have heard that the west of Lausanne is more industrial, so perhaps we should direct our focus to the east? Any advice would be much appreciated. My husband will work in Morges.
Jen

St Prex, Etoy, Aubonne, Allaman noe of which are far from Morges.
Going beyond St Sulspice takes you into Ouchy, Pully etc, then you have the north region around Lausanne.
You need to know your budget etc for accomadation.
The whole region is generally nice.
Travelling from Aubonne direction towards Morges is generally easier than from Lutry ect toward Morges.

Jen, how important is transit access? Planning to use the train often? Never?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
I would look hard in Morges, so your family is intact, it is lovely for kids, everything is walking distance.

Jen | | | | | I would DELETE the areas that I have highlighted. You want to live and work on one side or the other of Lausanne. Since your husband will be working in Morges, plan to stay on the Geneva side of Lausanne. Traffic on the highway around/above Lausanne can be a problem.
I would add some of the smaller areas above Morges to the list as they are very family friendly. Look in the area of Lully and Tolochanaz as well. You are right next to the countryside which can be really nice.
You could also go along the lake towards St. Prex. Lots of new developments that way.
You will be happy living in the Morges area.
Good luck with the move.

I agree with Verbier - better to be on the Geneva side of Lausanne
Rolle is worth considering - not as big as Morges but has kids parks, the lake, easy access to the autoroute, schools, swimming pool, very cosmopolitan with international companies re-locating to the Business Park
Everything within walking distance
