Coming to Kussnacht am Rigi.....

Hello all,
I have finally registered here and would like to say "hello"!
your forum is great, and I have learned so much from it as my husband has been working in Switzerland now for a few years - so thank you all!
Now it is finally time for me to move over from the Netherlands to join him, along with one of our daughters, a very ancient cat, and our 2 Border Terriers....
Although we are coming from the NL, I originated in Scotland many years ago - but I will be sad to leave the NL, especially as I will be leaving my 2 older kids there
Hope that's enough information for you all, and hope to be able to meet some other dog walkers in our new area once we arrive in August.

Re: Coming to Kussnacht am Rigi.....

Thanks Meisie!
My dogs are of course not Scotties - but I am!
the dogs are a big part of our lives (that's a bit sad, I know) - especially adding a lot of hassle to the necessary house hunting here, as you can imagine!

Aaarrrggghhhh I can completely understand how difficult the house hunting must be going with pooches included.. It's a nightmare doing it without any pets as it is! Don't worry though, you will find a place that's animal friendly. The Swiss love animals and your animals will love it here too. Sorry about your older kids not coming over, you have a lovely adventure ahead of you so don't worry about that

Hi Scottydog and welcome!
I have only been here in Luzern for a couple of months and without partner - he is still trying to sell our house.
When I read your post, I couldn't help but think that I am in a similar situation, but the other way round. I am originally German but lived in Scotland for 17 years, so I am missing Scotland more than Germany here. Anyway, it is much more similar to Munich (where I am from) than the West Coast of Scotland.
All the best of luch anyway!

Kussnacht am Rigi is an awesome place - a perpetual holiday destination. Outstanding for dog walking and mountain biking. Think of it as Scotland without the bad weather. One of my best mates loves there so if you want to know anything at all about anything even remotely connected with Kussnacht am Rigi just PM me...(he has been there 11 years and has a photographic memory)...

Beam me up Scotty....

Re: Coming to Kussnacht am Rigi.....

Thanks for your welcome! I have to say after 9 years in the NL and 2 years in Florida, I am very excited to be moving to somewhere which is not FLAT!! Looking at these beautiful mountains will certainly remind me of Scotland - though, as you say, the weather doesn't!!

I think (roegner) that I will end up speaking a lot of Dutch, but by accident - how I am going to manage learning German??! I think I only have space in my "old" brain for one foreign langauge at a time, and that space is currently "bezet" (taken)! But if you should see a Scot wearing bright orange on 30th April - that will be me!! (Dutch queens day)

Re: Coming to Kussnacht am Rigi.....

Dont worry, it will come! If you have mastered Dutch, you can master any language :-))

Hmm, i am not sure about the "mastering Dutch" bit.....! but i can at least communicate there!
and as i am currently staying over here in Switzerland while househunting, I am looking out the window at some VERY Scottish weather just now!!!But then, that's what keeps both lands looking green and beautiful I think

Re: Coming to Kussnacht am Rigi.....

welcome! I live in Greppen which is right by kussnacht am rigi. Absolutely GORGEOUS town, you will love it! Many locals here mostly speak swiss german, but you will find at least one person who speaks some english in all the local stores, cafes etc.

I live here with my parents, as I am an au pair. We also have a little terrier! A westie She got in great shape here since there are so many hills to walk on.. :P

i'm not quite sure if I myself will be here until august, but my parents will be. Perhaps an introduction could be made when you arrive.

Good luck with all the moving!

Hello and Welcome!!

I am too a fellow Scot, from the west coast. Been here six months, the weather is just perfect at the moment. The scenery does remind us of back home, which is nice.

Anyway enjoy and hope the moves goes well!!

I am also from the west, from Helensburgh originally! sadly haven't lived in Scotland for more than 20 years now, but I will always be Scottish...unlike my kids who don't know what nationality they really are, regrettably.
