here we go again...

Hi,

I just moved to Basel a month back (from Pakistan). Not finding it easy to make friends, with the language barrier and the fact that I have 2 kids (a 3 yr old and a 9 month old).

I am a muslim and although I see a lot of turkish women out and about, somehow the language barrier seems to persist even more with them.

Anyhow, I would love to make new friends, especially moms with kids of similar ages so we can all have fun.

I actually find basel very friendly and relaxing, been to the parks with the kids but Im sure things will get even better with the company of likeminded individuals.

Fingers crossed!

Sarwat.

Re: here we go again...

Hi Sarwat, welcome to Basel and to the forum!

I have heard that Basel Childbirth Trust (now called Basel Children's Trust) is a good resource for children and families in Basel, Centrepoint is good as well.

A few of us (likely "quite a few") will be stopping by the Basel Expat Expo in a couple of weeks, whether as visitors checking things out or working in stalls / exhibits.

Although I've been to some of the social events with other EF'ers (forum members), most of the folks I tend to know either have no children or their children are older so unfortunately I'm less familiar with family fun things and parent + baby meetups and such. Hopefully some of the folks with little ones (there are plenty!) will be around soon to help with ideas and info in that direction.

Welcome to Basel! I am sure you will meet people soon! There are often social events planned here on EF.

Re: here we go again...

Hello Sarwat!!

I just joined the english forum today and came across your post. I too have moved to Switzerland recently and finding it hard to make friends. I live in Neuchatel where not many people speak english. We moved here from Dubai, however we are originally from Pakistan.
I have a 5 month old daughter, which makes me a full time mom. Would love to meet up, believe its a 30-40 mins drive from basel to neuchatel.

Salam Sarwat,

I've just posted my first post and scrolled to see yours. If you read mine, you can see that I'll be in your shoes soon. Whereabouts are you in Basel?

We are looking to live across the border to Allschwil and if you are near, we could meet up and share a nice halal meal!
