| | New in Zurich
Hi everyone!
I'm Tyler Summers, just freshly arrived in Zurich on Wednesday to start a job as a postdoctoral researcher at ETH. I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA but lived for that last 5 or so years in Austin, Texas. I love music (keen to check out some jazz clubs here), travel, food, sports (especially soccer/football), and nerdy science/tech stuff. I've picked up a bit of German since I decided to move here and would really like to continue learning and practicing.
Looking forward to meeting some of you and exploring the city!
Cheers,
Tyler

Hi Tyler,
Welcome to ETH and Zurich. There's a getogether with a bunch of random english speakers tonight---always a good time.
Also, Merhspur has open stage jazz on Wednesday nights---not really jazz, but jazzy improve and jamming with whomever shows up--usually a good time.
Enjoy

I also grew-up in the Duke City and spent a few years in TX after undergrad, mostly in Austin. Are you working on the ETH Science City/Hönggerberg campus?

Hi Tyler, Welcome to Zurich! There are plenty of expat events to get along to and meet new people, you just have to have the time (and energy) to get involved. And I for one am always up for a beer so if you are ever short on something to do just give me a buzz.
Have fun!

Welcome! I'm also a postdoc at ETH with strong ties to the Land of Enchantment. High school and undergrad in NM, and lived and worked on the West Mesa for a few years. I miss green chile
The music scene will be a lot crappier than Austin's, but then again Austin is a cut above. There's a huge jazz festival in Montreaux each year that you'd probably love.
If you pine for American sports, there's a group here that plays flag football, and there's a softball team too. Otherwise, plenty of folks here play soccer.
If you've got specific questions, this forum's probably got the answers, but feel free to PM me. Good luck!
