| | New to Solothurn (almost)
Hi everybody!
I've been lurking for a little while reading all the (extremely) useful information and thought I'd take the leap and join up. I'll be moving to Solothurn in August so if anybody has any inside info on the region I'd appreciate it!
Also are there many forum members in this region? |

Hi!! Where abouts in Solothurn are you moving to? Actually to the city itself, or somewhere in the canton? I live in Solothurn city.....have been here for over a year, and it's a nice city. It's not very big, but it has a lot of cultural things that go on here, such as um....beer festivals, and Film festivals etc. They have a few "Bike days" and slow ups as well, where the roads are closed, and you can cycle, rollerskate etc etc through the city and the surrounding areas if that is your type of thing.
Pretty much everywhere is easily accessible by train from Solothurn. Bern is about 40 mins away, and Zurich is an hour away. I spend much of my time in each place, where there are more english speakers. It's a very pretty city, but much smaller that what I expected when I first arrived here. I havn't found too many english speakers in this area, but there are a few, and I'm sure there are more to be hunted out hee hee.
This link might help you... http://www.solothurn-city.ch/topic2477.html.
Good luck with your move. Loobie.

I'm about to move to Switzerland next week from the US, and I'll be living in Solothurn city. I'd like to meet up with some people if anyone is interested.

I live & work in Solothurn and though it's tiny, I really love it! Thursday nights are the most active for those who go out and it's also the one evening where the shops stay open until 9.00 pm. The Tiger bar caters to the expat crowd too I believe.
There's always something happening in town. Currently, the local farms have open hours for strawberry picking. The golf courses (two within ten minutes of the 'Altstadt' or old city) are open every day, and there are cafes and at least one museum open every day as well.
For the outdoors enthusiast the Jura mountain range is a five minute drive up and has bike trails and walking paths through the forest. Also near is Balmberg, which has a 'Seilpark' or ropes course strung through the trees, and you can ski and sledge or sled there in the winter.
There's also a few yoga & pilates studios, meditation teachers, and an ayurveda shop as well- if that's your taste.
If anyone wants to create a meet & greet event, I'd come along as long as I'm not working or teaching.

Thanks for the info ZenAgent and I think a meet & greet event would be a great idea. I'd be down for that for sure.

End of August? Now that's really well in advance . Perhaps just a simple Thursday or Friday evening drinks and chatting somewhere on the river, like Solheure, early-July? If it's a pleasant success, then you could do it again either same place, or elsewhere later in the month or in August. If there's momentum, I say Carpe Diem .

I work till 7:30, but it's only a short walk so I'll be there! As I'm feeling lazy , could you link the event on this thread once it's posted? Thanks! I'd guess it's not a bad idea for someone to get there a bit early to hold a table, once you know how many are coming.
