Moving to Zurich from London !!

Hi all,

My name is Jack, I am 19 years old and I currently live in South East London / Kent. I have recently been offered a permanent job with the DeVere Group based in Zurich (Mühlebach I believe). I know absolutely no one in Switzerland let alone Zurich! I am also looking for a place to live whilst I'm out there preferably close to where I'll be working; I have 1200 CHF per month, I don't mind a flat share either, however I don't speak any German (or Swiss-German) but want to learn it.

Thanks for allowing me to join !!

Jack.

Hello Jack,

I moved here from London as well, they're very different places but both good in their own ways. When are you arriving? Summer is a great time to be in Zürich. The initial flat-hunt can be quite intimidating but there's loads of advice to be found on the forum. Good luck with your move!

1. Oh, wow. The company name is not allowed to be used on this forum. Not because we don't like them, but because they sent their lawyers to the owners of this website... threatening them to remove any negative post on their service. I guess this should tell you something about your future employer. I'd leave before it is too late.

2. 1200 CHF?! Are you aware of the minimum salary in Switzerland? Even as an intern did I make 2700 and that's a decade ago.

Welcome to the EF Jack! I strongly you do your research before moving, CHF 1200 per month sounds like pay below poverty level. You will not be able to support yourself, even in shared acommodation.

Re: Moving to Zurich from London !!

good point...

but are we at cross purposes on this, the way I read it, he had 1200 CHF for property a month.

Jack???

- and as mentioned above, I would not try and live here on 1200 CHF, you wont even get somewhere to live let alone eat, drink, party etc.

Re: Moving to Zurich from London !!

Knowing of the company he will be working for it may well be 1200 a month basic plus commission. He'll have to do some pretty heavy selling to earn a beer at the end of the month.

Allegedly

If you're a Brit, you'll get a B Permit as long as you have an employment contract and somewhere to live. Search the forum, all your questions are bound to have been answered here.

You should really enquire to your HR department on what to do, they should be fully versed in what you need to do.
The least I would expect from such a prestigious company would be a PDF on where to go, what to say, what you need to take (photos, birth certificate etc)
Do not forget to ask about health insurance (which is compulsory), they should have a partner providing this at a preferential rate, otherwise look at the upside of CHF 300 for it a month.
