New - Brit moving to Lausane Area

Hi All
Im moving to Lausanne area in 2 weeks - for about 3 years. Currently live in UK with hubby and 2 dogs, however will be on my own first few months in Switzerland until I get a house sorted - then will bringthe dogs over. Hubby still hasnt found a job yet so not sure when/if he will make it!
I love to run - am doing Berlin marathon in Sept which is my 3rd marathon - so hoping to find some great routes I can go running with the dogs. I have 2 little terriers - Peggy and Alvin. Currently having French lessons, although I dont need it for my job - id like to be able to get along ok in French with the locals - been a long time since had to learn any kind of language - so think its going to take me a while! Brain isnt as quick as it used to be
I look forward to chatting to people on here and hopefully make some new friends
Lorna

Re: New - Brit moving to Lausane Area

Hi there!
Warning: you will probably have a difficult time finding housing. Good luck!
Running: check out the Lausanne marathon (and half marathon) at the end of October (nice flat course along the lake, 21 km out and 21 km back) and the Lausanne 20 km in late April (tough hilly course through the city).
I am moving to Lausanne in August. I plan on running the half marathon in October and the 20 km in April.

Hi Lorna

When I was a distance runner I used to train up and down the lake from Lutry to Morges if you want, all paved and no cars, except in summer when Bellerive Piscine is open (but no real bother with cars, a wide sidewalk and not much distance exposure). There is also Stade de Coubertin, in Vidy, on the lake to do track work.

Agree with Quebecman about Lausanne Marathon and 20Kms de Lausanne. Great races.

Happy trails

Tiny

Re: New - Brit moving to Lausane Area

Thanks both - definitely look at doing the half marathon in October - but running Berlin Mara at end Sept, so not in any rush to do another one yet as that will be my second this year. Prefer the half marathon distance really and would like to focus more on that in the next few years.
I have found a house I like and have been speaking with the Agents - as im not looking in central Lausanne (im planning to live in Oron), then I think ive been very lucky to find something that looks almost perfect and is also a very new house which is great! The landlord has been very accomodating so far - now I just have to see it in person (ony seen th pics so far), and then hopefully sign the paperwork . Just have to hope they will accept my copanies letter of guarantee vs the 3 months deposit!

Re: New - Brit moving to Lausane Area

Welcome to the Forum.
You wrote a nice interesting intro so you are definitely on the right road here.

As you get to know your way around the Forum, you'll find that a lot of the questions you're sure to want answers to are already on here - including stuff about running in the Lausanne area and a super Pet Corner with masses of useful Threads.

Good luck and I hope you find good company to combat the possible loneliness until the family arrives.

Hi ShaysLou
Im glad you mentioned that - i'll make sure to keep their drops updated and ive got a great new tick remover already as when I went to Devon recently they were covered in them .

I am really looking foward to the running with dogs in forests/mountains aspect of Switerland
