Hello everyone
I've just moved to Basel and stumbled across this website whilst flat hunting (how difficult is that here?!) and looking for any local running clubs..success on one count, the other I will keep looking..

Hi Emma! Welcome to Basel. I'm sure you've already found the threads and stickies about flat-hunting (I'm assuming your success was on finding the running club). In my personal experience, Homegate is where it's at but the Comparis mobile app is way better. I worked with a relocation service (who screened and set-up all the flat appointments), so I can't offer much more advice than that. I have no idea what that kind of service costs but, in my opinion, unless it's incredibly expensive, it's worth it. Working with a helpful relo person saved me countless hours and facilitated the rental process. I ended up seeing eight flats in two days (all of which were suitable because we had previously discussed my priorities), then went back to see the one I liked the next (third) day, made the offer that afternoon, had it accepted by the next morning (day four). It couldn't have been easier but I can't imagine what it would have been like to attempt to do the whole thing on my own. Best of luck!

Welcome to Basel! As for the flat, i had not big problems. I screened on homegate what i was looking for, see some of them (5 in total) and when i hit the one that i liked got the contract fast and with no problem. You have to be careful where you are looking for a place, for example, the zone around Klein Basel is less expensive but also more "animated"; the zone north of the train station and around the cantonal hospital and university are more expensive but also very nice to live in; the zone south of the train station is in development, they are renovating old houses, building some new ones, adding new shops (they just opened a huge coop). Is very international and you find a lot of shops and good restaurant. Last but not list is the historical center (around Marktplatz) which is simply beautiful but also expensive.
Hope that this will be useful for your hunt and good luck!

Amazing! Don't forget your hat, sunglasses and sunblock.

Welcome!
You might want to try the meetup group BASS too, (Basel Area Sports and Social) group, they tend to do lots of group sporting activiltes as well as general catch up and after work type things and its English speaking!
Enjoy though, Basel is a great place to live!
Cheers,
Willjny.

Hey Emma,
I can recommend Packimpex, they are taking very good care of me and can arrange everything on your behalf. You might want to check them out.
Cheers! Keep on running
