From Italy to Switzerland

Hello everyone!

I came across this forum a few months ago when I was searching for some information about schools in Switzerland and I immediately got hooked. It’s quite impressive that one can find an answer to pretty much anything here, from how to get a work permit to where not to go to get a haircut.

So after all the helpful tips I got it is only fair to finally write something about myself. I know I should have done it when I signed up, as probably most of you did, but I kept saying to myself that I still have months till I move to Switzerland, so why hurry? And now, here I am, with not even a month left and I’m starting to panic.

I moved to Italy over three years ago and I’ve been living in Milan since the fall of 2008. Apart from the fact that the city is dirty and extremely crowded and loud it still makes me feel good… I learned the language, I made new friends and I do feel like home. Plus I have an amazing job as a teacher and the greatest boss.

Well, what worries me the most is finding a job as soon as possible, but other than that, I’m very excited (having my boyfriend come to Milan every two weeks was really not an option anymore)!!

I’m moving to a small town near Luzern and I would love to meet with anybody who lives in this area.

See you soon!

Hi Karmi,

Which side of Luzern are you moving to? We may be in your area but it's hard to tell...

I know several Romanians in the area for sure!!

There are also a few expat clubs. EF also has get togethers in
various locales.

May we ask which town you are moving too?

Hi!

I'm moving to Ruswil, that's about 20 km from Luzern.

My impression so far is that the French part of la Suisse isn't that different culturally from N. Italy (though I think many Swiss would freak out about this assessment because of their culturally predicated perception of "difference"). I'm curious to see what your perception is of the change from Luzern from Milan. Though, Milan is a big city in a way that even the largest Swiss cities aren't so that will be a big adjustment in itself, I think. Should be a nice change if you are sick of the hustle and bustle of Milan, though. Keep us posted and welcome!

Oh Ruswil is lovely. We had friends living there for a while - not so close as to be able to say I'm in your area though. I'm sure you'll meet local people very quickly.

Well, N. Italy is definitely much closer culturally to Romandie than it is to Ticino!

Well, the mutual mistrust is certainly tangible!
