Gruezi from Singapore!

Hi everyone,

We are a couple from Singapore who have recently moved to Zurich. This is just a hello to everyone.

My husband works during the day and (until I land a job for myself), I am going about exploring Zurich myself.

Who else is here in Zurich city from Singapore/ malaysia/ HK/ Taiwan from that region in general etc?

*waves*

Re: Gruezi from Singapore!

Hi, thank you both for the welcome!

Yes summertime is really beautiful here. I love it by the lakeside! Plan to go up the Uetliberg soon to have a looksee..

dlpeiyee: Cool, which part of Malaysia are you from? I have already been on some trips looking for Asia Ladens here LOl! Wanted to see if they had sambal... haha

Anyway, besides the admin I am doing for house, job, etc I am idling away doing the "trailing spouse" thing. I am so keen to set up my own network of friends. To anyone who is in similar situation (or not), if you are interested for a cuppa coffee / know of any other events to meet people, do let me know!

If you are talking about the sambal chilli used in Singapore, fat chance. Most of them only stock the sambal olek that Indonesians use. Not the same.

The trick is to find the sembal belacan and then make your own with shallots, dried shrimps etc etc. I've hunted high and low for sembal belacan in Zürich to no avail. It might be a good thing for my Swiss neighbours that I havent, because sunning the belacan and its smell will drive them nuts.

Re: Gruezi from Singapore!

Hello Adrianna!!

Another Singaporean here but too bad I live across the border from Basel, in a tiny village in France. It is soo quiet and peaceful here though! No noisy neighbours belting out karaoke songs badly at 10 pm on Saturday but I'm able to goreng my belacan in my backyard!

I have a huge stock of Asian supplies due to coming from the Hague 3 weeks ago, with its steady supply of Malay/Indo ingredients. I have 3 bottles of Kee's Sambal Belacan and Laksa Paste by the way. LOL..

See, Singaporeans will always talk about food huh? Anyway, PM me if you are interested to connect. I have been to Zurich with hubby for entertainment so plan to again.

Ar'nie
