Hello everyone,
I'm Katrien (Catherine) and new to the Forum. Few weeks ago I moved from Belgium to Carabbia (Lugano, TI) and I must say I love it here. I was quite hesitant before I moved, but everything has been going suprisingly well.
My boyfriend made me move to Switzerland. He got a job offer few months ago and since he is very much into mountaineering, he didn't think twice about moving to Switzerland. I needed more time, but after a few months a decided to make the big step as well.
I must say people are very friendly here. We have the kindest neighbours ever! They 're bring fresh vegetables, fruit, homemade pesto, etc...almost everday! Like it! :-)
There is only one thing which I struggle with: finding a job. Back in Belgium, I was a Business Travel Consultant. Loved the job! I was hoping to find something similar here, but haven't been succesfull yet.
But well, I'm now following an italian course in Lugano centre. Maybe that will help me to find a job... .
So, I have plenty of time :-) If anyone is up for a drink, count me in! ;-)
Greetings,
Katrien

Otherwise, show up at my friend Danny's pub in Sorengo Thursday at 9PM, as I have to pick up my daughter after work and we usually stop by on the way home.

Hi, you are in the best part of Switzerland.
The only thing is that the Lugano region has a lot of jobs in the financial sector, as it is the 3rd financial center in Swizterland. There is few industry, but I am sure that you will find a lot of opportunities, as many others I know from all over the world. As Belgian I am sure that you will get what you want.
The Weather in Ticino is the best of Switzerland, the mentality is great, the food is fantastic, you have Italy close, the lakes, the alps, it is cheaper that the rest of the Country... Good luck and welcome

Ciao from Mendrisio - welcome to the Club :-)
re. the job issue - well, "down here" it is an issue as Ticino borders with Italy (as you already know)... a country grappling with high unemployment and low wages. So wage-dumping and all those nice things are the theme du jour, unfortunately.
However your language skills should provide you with some valuable assets that may be of use to a potential employer....
Take care, and enjoy The South!

| | Re: New in Lugano Dear all, Mi name is Miquel and I will be moving to Ticino at the end of September! I come from Barcelona, 32 years old and I work as a Legal Counsel. I love to travel, sports in general (football, ski, trekings, running, bicycle,…), and enjoying good company while tasting a glass of good wine or a couple of beers. I am going to start working in a Company based in Lugano and am trying to find where is better to rent an apartment: ¿Lugano, Como Cittá, or another city? I am interested in living where there are more day to day "Chances" such as Gyms, Supermarkets, stores, nightlife, pubs, chances to make friends, restaurants,... Could you please help me with your opinions? And I would also be glad to met you once I am there! Thanks for all your advises Miquel |
