Hey there and welcome here.

There are things to do in Geneva. Do you knit? We have a Stich and Bitch, with some good male knitters as well. We also run a book club in Morges, should you want to make a trip to nearby pretty town (30min).

Otherwise, if you do a search (upper right hand corner), there are threads about learning French inexpensively, I myself didn't spend much, at UniPeGe (100fr a year) and UniGe (now, you might still be able to sign up for the last of the summer courses at UniGe) it's more but worth it, plus we have a Fr/En exchange on Sat as well (free).

Get out and enjoy the festivities right at the moment, it's exciting.

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the forum, keep an eye on the event list, there are really cool events to attend to. Even if they are not in Geneve and you feel like exploring other places of switzerland.
You will love it here!

Welcome to Geneva!

To answer your question, yes, tap water is fine... although the taste isn't that great.

How long are you going to be here for?

Well very easy. First of all check the event you want to attend to and when you know when and where you can go to the information window in the train station and show them yous schedule. They for sure speak english. Google maps has been my best friend to find routes to all over. they tell you by bus, which one to take, they show you timetables and i think also link you to the train station webpage.
I mean im not rushing you to go out and feel lost haha just telling you what I would do if i could spend a HOLE day without pushing a buggie car

Re: Hello there! All you EF peeps...

Cooking? I might organize pot luck, actually, when I get some time...and when I find somebody with kitchen big enough to meet in there hint hint..

UniGe, check out their web www.unige.ch, University of Geneva, summer French courses. I just tried to access their site to link it here for you but they seem to be having some temporary technical problem. I will pm you the rest of the info.

The best for train transport is www.sbb.ch it is also in English, and www.tpg.ch for public transport in Geneva.

if it's written "POTABLE" you can drink it.

if it's written "NON POTABLE", you can't, 'coz it's recycled water.

Hello Mark,

Welcome to Switzerland and the the forum. If you're looking for action and adventure, there's a place you need to see at the train station; it looks like a train and has "Zürich" on the front of it. Climb aboard.

All the best.

Re: Hello there! All you EF peeps...

Hi All... If I knew how to thank all of you i would... but me being the newbie and a dud cant seem to figure it out...

so THANK YOU EVERYONE!!!! very useful tips...

@MusicChick my kitchen is pretty small... very small... I would say & I am waiting for all the stuff we shipped from back home to come here once they are here you are all welcome to drop by if you are in this corner of the woods that is...

@Mag thanks for the tip.. I will be here for about 2years...

@Coco.Nails yeah I have been on google maps its a life saver... Will take your advice and explore... kinda boring staying at home, just got back from a jog..

@ Bertrand the taps at home don't say anything so I am presuming they are potable...

@ Assasin I get it it you are from Z! so is that the fun side? if it is which side am I on?

@ Rangatiranui Sailing sounds fun!!! will look it up though I am petrified of the cold water... I am from what you may call the tropics!!! where the water is warm all year round... golden beaches... turquoise waters... arghhh!!! I miss home... sorry for that outburst... still adapting...

Thank you for listening...

While you hardly can take the beach over to Geneva I would arrange both the bike AND your dog to get transferred. Admittedly a bit complicated with the dog but should be manageable. For the beach, best bet is either the Bains-des-Paquis or one of the nice places up in Nyon.

To put it a bit more simply, inside homes it is practically always drinkable, at public fountains it may be of doubtful quality but generally alright and definitely not dangerous. We did drink from public fountains in Zurich as teenagers all the time and never had problems
