Just arrived in Zurich

We have just arrived in Zurich (me and hubby plus bub). I am originally from Melbourne (Oz), though have been through a few other countries on the way. Have worked for a Swiss company for a while, so know Zurich a bit. Looking forward to getting to know EF members and also to finally finding a cafe in Zurich which does breakfast on a Sunday

It's at Roemerplatz, next to the Dolderbahn (line 25) station.

Re: Just arrived in Zurich

Hmm... will have to try "the Daily Pain" but expectations low - saw a queue here outside Starbucks (yes, I am an insufferable coffee snob ).

My Swiss colleagues say there was an article in Sunday's NZZ about the five best cafes in Zurich - the small boutique-y run by Italians sort. Has anyone spotted it ? I can't find it online but may not have used the right search term.

Re: Just arrived in Zurich

Hello,
My family was on a quest to find pancakes when we arrived a little more than a month ago.

http://www.forumzh.ch/menus.htm

They serve brunch on the weekends. The food is great and the servers are all very friendly. We usually go late on Saturday or Sunday morning. Look for the other family speaking English, that will be us!
Welcome,
Lisa

Do you mind giving us an idea of the cost. Unfortunately, there is only a picture of pancakes on the link.

Thanks.

Hi,

Another Aussie here

Although a Queenslander, I moved here from Sydney so I feel your "Coffee pain"

I found this place:

Z am Park

It's actually run by an Aussie called "Shem"

The coffee is good (especially if Shem makes it), and ........
IT'S OPEN SUNDAY !!!

Two other places I like for coffee in Zurich are:

Casablanca
(open Sunday)

and

Tea House*

note that the Tea House doesn't seem to be registered anywhere, but it's got a great "Nth African" feel about it. Great staff, and good food.
Also open Sunday
*open the link and go to "Street view" look around for the GREEN building with funky chairs out the front.

No offence,
but you didn't mean the "Outback" pub at Stadellhoffen did you?

....... that's unfortunately the most UN-AUSTRALIAN place in the world.

It's a trap for new players from Australia.

We soon learn to find our watering hole at the Oliver Twist in Niederdorf.
The publican there is an Aussie (Brendan) and he knows how to put on a good show when it counts.

Re: Just arrived in Zurich

Thank you for all the great replies, especially Bill and Lisa ! I now have a whole August's worth of Sunday eating to try out (must try find gym as well)

Sadly I have also tried the Outback pub in Stadelhofen (before I moved here and by mistake). The VB was - it was like water with a dash of VB!!!!
