Hi! Student moving to Zurich

Hi all!

This September I will be moving to Zurich to start classes as ETH (I'm getting a master's in environmental engineering). I'm originally from Romania and I have been living in the US for the last 4 years, studying to get my bachelor's.

So far I'm struggling with finding a place to live in Zurich (IT IS as complicated as I've been warned) and trying to learn more about Switzerland.

My interests include current events, film, and languages.

I'm looking forward to meeting a lot (if not all ) of you!

Re: Hi! Student moving to Zurich

Welcome to EF, and soon Zurich and ETH.

I would advise that you come to Zurich sooner rather than later. There is a lot of competition for student rooms, particularly at this time of the year. I arrived last year at the beginning of September and it took me a month to find somewhere. At some of the room castings I went to 50 people showed up. We recently advertised a room in our WG and we got tons of emails in the first day alone. I'm not saying this to scare you or put you off or anything, just letting you know what to expect.

On a more positive note, I love living in Zurich and I'm really enjoying my studies at ETH (I'm in physics )

Re: Hi! Student moving to Zurich

Thanks guys! I will definitely come to some EF events, they sound really fun.

I did hear about the street parade, too bad I won't be able to make it since I'm not in Switzerland yet...

Re: Hi! Student moving to Zurich

Ferdinandaldo, well, there are 54123 members on the forum, so I'm thinking I could have at least 40,000 (subtracting the people who aren't friendly or aren't in Switzerland anymore) new friends by the time I get to Switzerland if I try hard enough

Papa Lemming, process engineering is fun... I used to study chemical engineering, so we did a little bit of that. I'm sure we'll run into each other at school
