| | Just moved to Neuchatel
Hi guys, just got a job over in Neuchatel and I've moved out ready to start my job on Tuesday.
Currently sitting in my flat all on my lonesomes watching CNN. Just wanted to introduce myself and find out a bit more about the town, what sort of stuff people get up to and what is there to do as I've got 2 days yet before anything opens. Heard there is some lake party going on tonight with Yves La Rock and a few other performers.
So hi all, how's everyone doing?

Welcome to the forum
Odile and kamarate will be here soon to fill you in. I'm just the Neuchatel jester and provide nothing of use.

LOL - yes welcome to Neuchatel, my hometown. I am the Auntie of the Neuch Forum as I am an old biddie. Kamarate knows much more about the 'scene' but she is still away in UK for a few days. How about coming to our BBQ and walk at the Gorges de l'Areuse Sunday after next? Also look up johntagg as he is young and been here for a month now, so has found out about what goes on. Soon will be the buskers festival in Neuch for 1 week - a lot of fun with small bands from all over the world, including UK and Ireland of course. If you need any help or advice from an older local- only pleased to help. (Born and bred in Neuch but spent all my adult life in UK- now back to my native Jura mountains).

Hello and welcome to Neuch. You should keep your eye on the social events section to see what's going on, but to get started off I would suggest heading to the Café du Cerf. It's full of English-speaking expats and chances are that someone will happily talk back if you talk to them.
Hope you're enjoying yourself so far!

Well that was quicker than expected.
Also I resent the implication that I'm not young Odile!

Arghh Porsche - nothing about your age, it is just that I understand next month is going to be a bit different for you, and with such a beautiful wife, you won't be going on the 'pull' hopefully. Hope the next few weeks won't be too tough.

Yesterday we went to a mega BBQ and today to a concert and tomorrow to see the fireworks here...If you want to come along, PM me and let me know. Brilliant- if you ever have visitors and need to borrow 1 or 2 folding beds, linen, duvets, etc, just ask.

Thanks for the replies and advice guys. I've just moved from Derby by myself. Have been put up in a flat by the bank I'm working for and will have to find my own place in about a months time so will be looking to you guys for advice then as well.
Is there any opportunity for sport like hockey and football. Would quite like to get involved with some 5 a side and training for any local teams. The invites sound good guys, may take you up on those offers. It just sucks a bit at the moment that everything is closed so unable to experience much at the minute.

You've probably arrived at the best time of year for events.
I fall into the oldies category so you probably won't see much of me but we'll probably be out and about during the busker's festival.
There isw a Neuchatel hockey club which trains on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The website is www.neuchatelhc.ch . Don't know about football though. The Neuchatel international club may be able to help you with that one.

One thing I forgot to mention. I'm really desperate to learn French, it's an absolute must. What do people here recommend as the best way about doing this? Can I just leave French speaking TV on all day and hope I'll pick it up?

A language course would really help too - pick up a leaflet for the courses starting in September at your Migros supermarket (Ecole Migros).

I would set you up with one of my students, but that might put me out of a job.
I'll see if any from the groups fancy extra conversation practice and you can do a French/English exchange (although if you don't already have some level of French, maybe I should wait until you've got the basics).

Guys,
I'm new to Neuchatel, too. I've moved here 3 weeks ago for work and don't know anyone!
I'm working in marketing at one of the multinationals based here.
I'm looking for.. English speakers that are willing to hang out
Sports, tipples, cinema
Thanks for giving me any hints! Hope to see you soon!
