Moving to Basel in September

Hi

I am currently being made redundant from a large Pharmaceutical company in Kent UK due to site closure.

In September myself and my 13 month daughter will be moving to Basel/french border to join my husband who has been working for Jet aviaition since January.

Firstly we will need to find a doctor surgery to enroll.I will be looking to meet new friends with small children, find a nursery for my daughter so I can expose her to other languages asap. Find groups for her suh as swimming, music.(Hoping she will become bilingual).

We will be also renting another flat as his current one is too small. He currently lives in Huningue.

We are moving our two Maine coon cats out also. They have their rabies shot tomorrow which is the last step in obtaining their pet passports. I will need to find a vet for them and also catteries for when we come home for visits.

Then when we sorted and unpacked I need to find myself a new job. I am an analytical chemist in the Pharma industry. I am educated to Masters level and have 11 years experience.

Please help! Too much to do.

They say redundancy is stressful, but that is just the start!

Natasha

Hello and wleoc, you will find that things fall into place.

For making contact with other mothers ( and fathers) of young children, there is a very good network to be had through this. www.centrepoint.ch , based in central Basel.

Are you going to stay living in France? That may make a difference when looking for a docotor, etc.

HI

Yes we will probably live in France to start with as we believe it is cheaper. Especially till I manage to get a new job.

I will have a look at that website.

All help is gratefully received.

Re: Moving to Basel in September

Hey Natasha, forgot to add my last one is a boy, 13 months this week. I moved from another international location (The Hague) with 3 kids and 3 cats over 2 moves while hubby was in Basel. And I had to close my business as he got the job here early this year.

So I understand your stress.

Hi Natasha. Welcome to EF and welcome to the region.

Redundancy is hard, but at least you're in the right sort of area (location and qualification wise) to maybe find work here. Good luck.

Maine Coons are those big cats, right? How do they compare to keeping normal cats? I always fancied having them.

Hi Natasha and welcome to Basel!

Although Centrepoint is a very good network of English speakers, you will probably find more support for your family through the Basel Children's Trust (BCT) which can give you all the info you need about helping your child adjust to the move. It also includes a group of working mothers that meet regularly.

Hope this is helpful!
