Maybe moving to Zurich....

Hi All,

I don't normally use forums, but this place has been so helpful! A huge appreciative hand to you guys for answering in such detail pretty much all the questions I had to ask about a move to Switzerland! And before I even put down my first thread. Seriously, some of you guys should quit your jobs and work for the government!

About me: recently interviewed for dream job in Zurich, which went well. Understandably, I'm putting in some ground work in case they offer me the position. Trying not to get too emotionally attached to the idea, but your site has really clarified some thoughts I had on moving there:

A. It will only work if your heart's in it. If you want to miss Homeland (England in my case), you'll come up with theories about how Homeland-ish snacks are delicious and the inadequacies of blonde beer but you're only fooling yourself that your standards aren't being reached. Every real alcy knows ANY beer will do and 53 results on a Google search for "michelin star" AND "pork scratchings" is NOT a good indicator of gastronomic taste! The grass isn't always greener on the other side of the fence.

B. You have to make an effort to fit into a country's culture. It only seems to be comparitively irrelevant things that bug people. If you just give in to 'their' way of doing things and get used to it, life will be alot more pleasant for yourself.

C. If you assume something to be correct and many people say it isn't, you have to face the fact you're probably wrong and have to be true yourself and make a change.

If I don't get the job and never have reason to use this forum again, I hope those words of wisdom will go some way to paying back my debt of gratitude to people in a position similar to the one I soon hope to be in.
