| | New to Geneva
Hey all. Me and my girlfriend are moving to Geneva at the start of September.
I am 22 years old and come from Macclesfield in England.
The decision to move to Switzerland has been pretty spontaneous, and whilst im looking forward to it, I can't help but feel a little unprepared! I need to learn a lot more about Geneva, start learning French, and most importantly find a group of Manchester United fans who are willing to accept a newcomer into their ranks.
This is all bloody exciting!

Hey, great choice of football team!
I'm going over for a few days in September so could catch up to watch the champions if there are any games on at the time. I've heard there is an Aussie pub in the town, that may be a good bet for sport |

I think everywhere in Geneva isn't pretty central isn't it
I'm keen to do some sort of boat trip to some towns on the lake. Maybe even Lusanne, although that is pretty far so it will probably be an all day thing.

Lucy | | | | | We don't know where we are living yet. We arrive on the 25th and have the first few nights in a hostel whilst we look at appartments. It would be great to meet up. Like you, we don't know anyone!

It is seriously hard to find somewhere to live in Geneva, and you will probably find it takes weeks if not months if you are in any way picky about things like size/condition/cost/location... You will need to have all the paperwork ready when you go to visit places as well as the funds to pay 2 or 3 months deposit as well as the first month's rent, and you may well find yourself up against 10-50 other people all after the same place as you. If you search around on the forum you will find a lot more info.
Don't want to put you off, as Geneva is a great place to live, but a bit of warning on these kind of things will hopefully help you avoid a nasty surprise.
Good luck with the move!

Cheers for the info. We've heard about the difficulties with finding accomodation, and would love to be a bit more prepared. Unfortunately, times been against us. We have a few viewings the day after we land, and after living in moldy student houses for the past 3 years, we aren't too picky.
Worst comes to worst, we spend every penny staying in a hotel for a couple of weeks before running back to the UK with our tails between our legs, chalking it up to experience... |
