Not long to go now ....

The movers are coming in exactly one week and I'm nowhere near done with the packing. Well I'm not actually packing, the movers are going to do that for me, it's more the sorting out of cupboards, shed, etc and sorting through what's moving and what's being thrown away. I swear I'll never move again. I can't believe how much stuff I've accumulated over the years and I don't even do clutter. Just chucked 6 black sacks of kitchen stuff out, I can't believe what I found in my cupboards, stuff I haven't used in years.

I'll be arriving in Switzerland in less than one week now, can't wait to get out of the UK, especially after this week's events, just awful here.

Hi there Crazy.. welcome to the forum.

Though I see you have already been quite active advising others - nice to see.

Good luck in Schafhausen, there are a few cool people from the forum who live there already. No doubt you'll catch up with them soon, if you havent already.

Remember, if you forget it/ have broken it in the move, you either wont need it, or may be able to get a new one when you get here

Just make sure you don`t do anything frivolous when you arrive like frolic under a water fountain, you might upset the locals

Re: Not long to go now ....

Pity me then. I have a collector husband and when we moved to Fribourg we had 10 tonnes of stuff on the truck.

We're in the process of moving again and this time doing it ourselves! Luckily new house in only down the road, but I'm really dreading the thought of shifting so much. He hates to throw things out too, but I'm insisting that a lot of it goes - I hope!

Wish you the best with the move and with your new life here in Switzerland.

Re: Not long to go now ....

Thank you all so much. Yes I've been loitering on here for some time now as the relocation was agreed back in Apri and it's been on the cards for quite a long time, couple of years or so. I thought I'd be pretty well prepared by now but somehow the time has slipped by and it's all a manic last minute panic stations now. I'm being ruthless now - chucking out almost everything and only bringing what I really need. I'll probably want new things in my new apartment anyway so may as well get rid now.
Yes Schaffhausen is lovely and I've got quite a few friends their already. I've got 2 parties to go to in the first week I'm there already and I've also booked on the Sunday Lunch in Zurich, a bit nervous about coming on my own but I can see you're all a friendly bunch so looking forward to meeting you.
Now about those fountains ........

Re: Not long to go now ....

I know it's not always possible - as things can happen very quickly.
But if you can plan ahead, giving stuff away to friends, charity shops and via Freecycle actually makes getting ready for moving a much more enjoyable experience.
Anyway - hope you feel ready soon and welcome to Switzerland.
