Re: Want information for moving to Switzerland

How can you plan to move somewhere without knowing this basic stuff?

is it difficult to find job there? Very, unless you are highly qualified

I think Tayna means you might want to do a bit of research on your questions prior to making the actual moving plans.

Just pointing out that Ittigen was kind enough to give brief answers to your question, then pointed you in the proper direction to allow you to learn more details.

This site can provide a wealth of information if you are willing to put in just a small amount of effort to get it. Please spend some time doing so, or your fellow EF members will likely not be patient and responsive toward you when you actually have a question that has not already been asked many times over.

And welcome to the forum.

Re: Want information for moving to Switzerland

Hi,

To get to Switzerland I have provided a detailed map below (note that Switzerland is located in the centre fo the map, and is only accessible by boat):

I assume you will travelling overland from the Desert Land at the lower left of the map. In this case you will encounter many Ogres and Trolls (who we call, the Spanish and French).
They maybe loud and frightening, but fear not, they are harmless and are easily repelled by spraying yourself in human urine.
Swiss people survive soley on a diet of Cheese and Rivella, and trade in actual gold coins the size of a human fist.
It is cold here, so take an extra jacket with you.

For all other basic enquiries, please find the search function at the top right of this website.

For all other basic enquiries without stupid responses, please use the search function on "Google"

Alternatively, you could also use google to locate the closest Swiss embassy near you. They will have the most accurate information you will need for your specific case.

Come on guys, don't be mean. You will scare the poor chap away. I will help you out Mohamed:

In order to move, you must have a valid passport and either a student visa or a work visa that justifies your presence in the country. For an employer to justify to the Immigration authority hiring you over a Swiss national they must prove your particular skills are not available in the local market (I guess Market Research is NOT your field, right ? Just asking.).

It is difficult finding a job here, of course. Everyone wants to come here to look for a job, mostly because of the high salaries and the low cost of living. Which was your next question.

The cost of living in Switzerland is very low...one of the lowest in the world. But you surely know that already, having done some research and having chose Switzerland because of that, right ? The Swiss Franc is continuously devaluated (I mean losing value on a daily basis compared to other currencies, like the Euro). It makes travel abroad quite expensive, but living here is easy and you can afford anything you want. Foreigners LOVE coming to Switzerland to shop...not much to see in terms of landscape. Sure there is the Heidi hills and a few skiing resorts, but other than a few lakes and the occasional valley...it's a pretty desolate view.

People are like every other place: some are friendly, some dislike foreigners. Luckily politicians in general love immigration, which makes labor cheap and keeps unemployment low. Actually there is a permanent debate between the leading political parties to increase the immigration quotas, and the SVP (a political party) is currently pushing for complete open borders. Go figure !

Language is a super plus for foreigners. Swiss people speak a local dialect, which is a variation of German. It's called Swiss German. It's a sort of mixture of German and Esperanto, which makes it super easy for anyone to understand. You only need a few weeks in the streets and you'll be speaking Schwyzerdütsch like a pro. But you don't really need to even learn the language, as you can get by with just about any language you already speak, since there are already so many foreigners...it's like a huge Babel tower.

I hope to meet you some day, once you're set up. If you need any particular information, don't hesitate to give me a call. I will gladly walk you through every little detail.

Sad, but true...

Here's a photograph of the famous Matterhorn:

... and here's a prospect of the city of Zurich:

... and here is the world-renowned Lind and Spungi chocolate factory:

It's so depressing, I'm thinking of moving to Irkutsk.

Re: Want information for moving to Switzerland

As a native Pole, I can assure you that you’ll find Switzerland to be a lot like Poland. People still drive tractors to work, both expats and locals farm land and keep cows. Modern technology is scarce and you’ll have to barter to get food.

Sorry, I am not sure this is appropriate for my first post ever on this forum but I thought this just the funniest thing I have read in ages (I hope that doesn't make me really sad!!!). I promise to introduce myself in the appropriate way!

Thankyou for having me giggling for at least 20 minutes, and now Gimmee Gimmee Gimmee is on Sky to keep me going!
