I've been lurking in the forums for a few weeks now and have found it very useful. Thanks for all the tips so far!

I've been visiting Zurich every few weeks but as of September, I am moving in with my boyfriend. Hopefully I can find a job and settle in too.

I'm from the UK (via the Middle East and the Philippines...) so I'm not unfamiliar with packing up and moving to a foreign country. So I'm really keen to meet people and make friends as soon as I can since in my experience it takes the sting off homesickness and the winter blues

Learning German is surprisingly more difficult than I expected but thankfully ordering a ein gipfeli und kaffee is easy enough. Also, despite being the least outdoorsy people I know, my boyfriend and I have found ourselves hiking, cycling, etc. I guess there's something about the Swiss mountain air.

Any pro tips are most welcome. Looking forward to meeting a few of you guys!

enroll into german classes asap
migros or alemania schools are good
get your self familiarized with the city, just walk out with the stadt map
and discover new places and keep changing coffee cafes
german is not easy at all but it is learnable.

I''m moving to Zurich in 2 weeks (exactly ) to move in with my bf too. I can speak German already (allbeit slightly out of practice atm) but sympathise with your having to learn it from scratch! How old are you if you don't mind me asking? Which area of Zurich will you be living in? I'm moving to Wallisellen.

I've only visited Zurich twice (less than a week in total) so my first aim is to spend a week walking round all the different areas to learn the way around .

I'm definitely going to take you up on that coffee Katalina So far I've found a gym I'm signing up to as soon as I get there but I'm still deciding between language schools.

Rach, I just noticed you're in Nottingham. I'm in Nottingham too! (well at least until the end of the week anyway...)

I had to google it, but Wallisellen is indeed near Opfikon.

I'm not in Nottingham atm (need to update my location!) but I went to uni there and graduated this July . What part of Nottingham do you live in? I was living in West Bridgford and I love that area .

I see. I came to Notts for uni too but graduated last summer. I then ended up working here during the last year so I've lived in Beeston, Lenton and Dunkirk.

Let's definitely grab a coffee as soon as we both settle in I've only got 3 weeks until I try and cram everything I can in 1 suitcase.

1 suitcase! OMG! I'm coming over by coach as you get 2 suitcases and a 60kg weight limit, and I'm shipping a box of stuff over as well! (I simply can't travel light).

Ok, maybe I've cheated a bit lol. I've visited my boyfriend several times in the last few months so I've moved half my stuff over. (Although he has 'discouraged' me from bringing anymore shoes over...)
