Moving to Zurich area from London and Paris suburbs

We will be moving to Zurich area this December as my husband starts a new job in Oerlikon on 1 Jan.
I thought I'd say hello (and bonjour and czesc) since I will no doubt be posting on the forum before we move.

We are a multi-national family - I am an Anglo-Pole, Himself is French (luxembourgish resident) and our baby girl (9 months, will be 13 months when we move) carries three passports with gusto and speaks baby to avoid the pitfalls of tri-lingualism. One of the cats is Belgian. We are moving to a Swiss German speaking canton. It will be interesting.

I am still getting used to life as full time mother and trailing spouse. We only just left London which I loved and now we are off again so no doubt I will be posting the usual angst ridden, moving to Zurich questions. I will try to do my research and post in the right places but please bear with me while I learn the rules.

Wow! You do have a multicultural family. I live in Oerlikon right now and feel like it is great area to be in. It's well connected and there are a variety of people living here. I'm sure you'll fit right now. Hope the move goes well!

Welcome to the forum! I am sure you will like it in Zurich. I moved here last year from London and think it's a great place to live. No regrets!

Re: Moving to Zurich area from London and Paris suburbs

"No regrets" - so glad to hear that!

I never really thought about us as multicultural but perhaps we are.

We visited Zurich briefly at the weekend and went on a short walk on zurichberg dodging the rain. Everyone was super friendly - a lady actually stopped to offer directions when we looked lost and then even offered to call us a taxi. So kind. Feel a lot better about the move now.

We also learned to always look for price tags. At the airport we picked up a few gifts. The bill came to sf250 - I was dumbstruck. It turned out the no tag soft cloth baby Heidi book we bought was sf150! I think j now need a safe to put it in
