Re: English guy just moved to Zurich

Hi,

Welcome to the forum!

I have been in Zurich for a month now and I can tell you that looking for an apartment is my biggest task at the moment. I have been looking for a month now and still have not found anything.
Try homegate.ch or Alle Immobilien.
I think you just need to keep at it until you find something and you have to be quick to go visit the apartments before too many people get there, to be with a chance of getting it

Good luck and hope you find something soon.

Best regards

Sanjivee

Welcome to the forum.

Looking for a flat in Zurich is notoriously difficult (and expensive). Luckily there is an extensive public transport infrastructure so it may be worthwhile looking a little outside of the city for a flat.

For example you could consider the town of Winterthur, which is about 20 minutes away from Zurich by train. That way you might increase the odds of getting accommodation soon.

Hi
Welcome to Zurich!!

We faced the same crisis when we were planning to shift to an aprtmnt from a hotel for our 1 yr small child.
We responded to some add, went to the place 30 mins before the mentioned time, and found 50/60 persons standing in the queue for the house visit.
We saw some 20 houses and nothing were finalizd for us.
Finally after 6 months we got the house from one of my husband's office colleague...

Bye

Hi welcome to Zurich!

Don't know what your preferences are but just try places next to the airport such as Rümlang, Niederhasli, Oberglatt and many other "Glatt's".
Appartments are not that expensive as in the Gold region. You will be just 20 minutes from ZH main station and 20 minutes from the airport.
Good luck in your search!!

Re: English guy just moved to Zurich

I moved here a year ago and found a room in a house to rent right here on the forum while i looked for a permanent apartment - I registered with Homegate (mobile alerts too) and was really specific regarding area and price. It took two months before the perfect place came up but I was one of a hundred viewing. I decided to attach my photo and business card to the rental application (so they would remember) and got a work colleague to fill it in in German. I have now been in my lovely place for 8 months and I love it.

Re: English guy just moved to Zurich

It depends a lot on what you want and where you want to be. I move into my apartment in Dietikon in October. I visited Zurich for 3 days, saw about 8 apartments, applied for 3 and got offered all 3. I'm sure that would not have been possible in Zurich itself, but I'm 5 mins walk from the station and then 15 mins to HB. And since I don't work in Zurich it's actually a benefit living outside the city. If you want any tips about applications just PM me.
