Hi Aksenja
Well Ill be honest, Birmensdorf is the reason I will probably never stay in Switzerland and have decided to sell most of my real estate here. Ive lived in ZH, ZG, AG etc and I have a very nice office in your area, directly on the water, high ceilings, big windows. The works.
But the neighbors were the very worst I have ever had. "Swiss x10". Now Im not saying you guys wont do well eventually. But I moved out of my office a couple years ago and now rent it out to a Swiss woman (fight fire with fire).
I would advise you to try to introduce yourself to your direct neighbors. When people would dump garbage on my door-step it was the neighbor who was directly next to me who would apologize, and listen to my venting.
Learning the language DID help me more that you can imagine, but only in the other places Ive lived. In Birmensdorf it just make me a target for fast talking Swiss people to talk-shiit about not liking the fact I had clients visiting my office.
You will have a MUCH better time of is than I did. I know that because once you have kids in the picture you will likely make friends with the other moms etc. But the 6 week advance planning to go to the mall or playground does get old. Hang in there.

| Hello. I came from Belarus with my husband and two children. We used to live in Zurich for some months and then moved to Birmensdorf. Nice village, nice nature, perhaps nice people( sitting in their houses). Whenever i walk with children seems that we are the only people here (just few walkers in compony of their dogs). From one hand its good to enjoy this atmosphere with your family, but i just used to another. In Belarus i had active life with work, friends (visiting each other without making appointment 2 weeks before). I have some Russian friends in Sw, but they live far away.
I need advice what to do in such situation not to get mad. I'm going to German courses, but still can't communicate good with Swiss people (hope its only because of language))))). If somebody can advise me smth, i would be very gratefull. Thanks. | |
