New in Luzern

Hi all, I just moved to Luzern for work about a month ago and am trying to get settled and established both at work and in life. I can't speak much German, but am starting a course in the coming weeks.
Just wanted to introduce myself and say "Gruezi"!

Re: New in Luzern

Welcome! You've picked one of the prettiest places to live. Although I may be slightly biased.

And I'm frankly intrigued by the reply "Austria" in your public profile. Can you expand on that a bit more?

Re: New in Luzern

The Austria bit? The signup had a cheeky question that said, "What country starting with an A sits next to Switzerland?" I answered it not knowing it would be impossible to edit from my profile! I suppose it provides a bit of an icebreaker!

Re: New in Luzern

Oh yeah, the 'old Austria' trick eh? - they tried that one on me too.

All the best and welcome to Central Switzerland - you've picked a great place to get started.

Re: New in Luzern

That explains it, thanks! (I don't remember this happening to me, perhaps it's new?)
DH and I were racking our brains trying to think of any way in which the answer to "are you familiar with Switzerland?" could possibly be "Austria"!

Anyway best of luck in your new job/life.

Re: New in Luzern

I am taking my classes at Migros klubschule. It seems like the cheapest option in town compared to the other language schools.

Being Swedish, you might find learning German to be not so difficult. I studied Swedish for a year at university and have found it very useful as many German words are quite similar to their equivalents in Swedish and English! Lycka till!

Re: New in Luzern

Hi welcome to Luzern, very pretty place to be.
Hopefully you'll find your way here easily. Don't have much advise but for a few good places to eat in case you want to try them.
Enjoy and good luck!

Re: New in Luzern

Best coffee in town is at Black Velvet (Bundesplatz) & Meridiani (Bruchstrasse). That's probably the most important thing to get you settled in: Welcome to Luzern!
