American in Neuchâtel

Hi everyone, I've lived in Switzerland for 3 years (2 in Geneva, 1 in Neuchatel). I've met a few people here through my French courses but I'd love to meet more English speakers.
I live in Neuchâtel with my husband, he's Swiss (originally from Geneva). Anyone else here in Neuchâtel?

Hi and welcome. Plenty of us here - if you do a search 'Neuchatel' you will find lots of threads re people and activities. Are you free during the week and like walking? A few of us are going for a walk next Thursday, and hopefully on a regular basis after that. Also somebody is starting an amateur dramatics group, if that is of any interest.

Welcome to the mighty Neuch. I remember when I joined EF first and there was hardly anybody!

I think you may have broken his little corazón.

Hello! I live here too. I mean in neuch, not EF obviously.

with the fête des vendanges coming up, I expect there will be an opportunity to meet up. Someone should really get on organising that... *lazy*

Re: American in Neuchâtel

I have class Monday-Thursday, 8-4, but I do have two hour lunch break on Monday and Wednesday. Too bad I'll miss the walk.

Is anybody free this Sunday or Monday and would like to meet for coffee?

Re: American in Neuchâtel

I'm sure we could arrange something. Even though Monday is supposed to be a day off, I'm working (although not all day). I'm relatively flexible so maybe if someone names a time...

Re: American in Neuchâtel

Don't forget to buy your plums for Monday 'Le Jeune Fédéral' - when by tradition Swiss people eat plum tart instead of meat or fish- and give the money saved to Charity. Of course in those days, almost everyone had a glut of plums in the garden, and they would make their own pastry with very cheap butter!

Re: American in Neuchâtel

You're supposed to eat tarte aux prunes for the 20th? Weird.

Thankfully us normal people aren't Swiss

Re: American in Neuchâtel

Seriously...they could eat something more exciting. I hate the "tartes", blah, so boring.

That's the whole idea about charity often 'boring' = money saved that can be given to charity. You could make a crumble instead, lol. Porsche perhaps you 'normal' people could refuse the day off if you are not interested in Swiss tradition

Like me.

Well obviously I'm not doing the in-company classes. One of my students wants a class at 8am on Monday. I (very politely) told her to sod off.

Anyway, this coffee... I'm free early afternoon on Monday or on Sunday (although I imagine I won't be up and about early given the times of the concerts on Saturday night).
