Just moved to Fribourg!

Hello,

Hello everyone; my husband and I just moved to Fribourg, and we'll be here through next summer. He is studying at the University on a Fulbright grant, and I am just kind of hanging out right now
I am an English teacher in the US, and would love to find an opportunity to tutor while I'm here. I'm also really interested in learning french. If anyone has any thoughts on these things, let me know!
Also, I'm trying to figure out the tiers of grocery stores here--any direction on the difference between Manor, Migros, Coop, etc?

Thanks!
Ali-e

Manor is a bit higher end grocery store....

Coop and Migros are the standard grocery stores...

Aldi and Lidl are the discount grocery stores....

For French, I would suggest www.klubschule.ch, Klubschule Migros. They
are pretty good and economical.

For English tutoring, look at the international schools around the
area especially in Bern or Lausanne. You could also teach
at a school like Inlingua or Berlitz.

Anyways, welcome to Switzerland!!

Hello and welcome to lovely Fribourg!

One avenue worth exploring with language learning might be to do a tandem - you offer English in exchange for French lessons. If you look on the uni of Fribourg website there's a section for tandem language learners where they help you find someone who's interested in your language combination.

Hoorah, another arrival to Fribourg. We're suddenly becoming popular for Swiss expats. Welcome to Fribourg and to the forum.

The Swiss have this impression that only their own stores (Manor, Migros, Coop, etc) provide quality food and supposedly don't shop at places like Aldi and Lidl. They're wrong; we get the bulk of our weekly shop at Aldi and save a fortune over the others. Lidl have more name brands, but their prices are usually the same as you'd see when they're on offer in the others. We only go to the other places for those things we can't get Aldi.
