Hello everyone

My name is Tracey and I have come all the way from a little country (which is sometimes mistaken to be part of Australia) called New Zealand, to be with my partner. He is German living and working in Switzerland. I left in time to avoid the Mad Rugby Craze that has taken a grip of New Zealand. I must say I was super stoked when I read Ireland had beaten Australia hehe.

I have been in Switzerland since June 30th. I came over last year for two months to see what Switzerland was all about (cuckoo clocks, St Bernards and mountains made of Läderach chocolate hehe) and he came over to NZ for a month at Christmas and from there we made the decision that I would come here so we could start our life together, after doing the long distance thing. We originally met in Rarotonga, a gorgeous tropical island, and then had our first proper date a year later back in Rarotonga and from there became a couple.

So a year and a half later (and about 140 kilos of luggage) sees me living in a little village called Diesbach-Betschwanden, and my closest town is Glarus.

I am excited I start my German classes in a week and a half, so this will mean I will be able to converse with my German in-laws hehe.

I have had my blue moments feeling homesick from my family especially my 6 1/2 year old niece and 5 year old nephew, but they pass quickly when I think of my exciting adventure I have ahead of me. I have a British Passport so hopefully this will make things a bit easier when I start looking for a job, sometime next year after I get back from our trip to NZ for Christmas yay, two summers in one year lol.

Sorry if I have rambled too much but I am a bit of a chatter.

My name is also Tracy and am a 32 year old American living in Glarus. Just moved here about 3 months ago and married my Swiss man. I have been trying to adjust to life here, and have been fairly successful, but the language barrier is definitely a difficulty. I am new to this forum as well, so not quite sure how it works, but if you are looking for someone to chat with it looks like we are right around the corner from each other. I will make one caveat. My best friend is an Aussie and she might not take it to kindly befriending a Kiwi. BUT, what she doesn't know won't hurt her.
Where are you taking German courses? I just took a placement test this week for a course in Rapperswil.

Hi to both Traceys and welcome to "my" canton! I'm an American and have been living here for quite a while now. Fortunately for you guys, even the cashiers at Migro can speak some English now - that certainly wasn't the case when I first came. Although I don't think Diesbach/Betschwanden even has a Migro. (How on earth did you land there!) So, if you're feeling a bit homesick or having a bad day in Switzerland (it happens - that's when despite all the German courses, you suddenly can't understand anything or produce any recognizable German. Still happens occasionally to me although my German is quite good. ), we could meet up sometime in Glarus. At this rate, English is going to be an official language in Glarus soon.

I realize that this post is a few months old but for some reason it is still appearing at the top when I brouse the introduction page. I am not sure if you will even see this reply but what the heck, it's worth a try!

My husband and I just moved here from San Francisco. I arrived 11 days ago. I was wondering if either or both of you would like to get together sometime for a coffee, cocktail or just walking around Zurich. I looked up your location and you are pretty far from me, I think? I live in Erlenbach which is about 10 minutes outside of Zurich.
