Saskatchewanite soon to be in Switzerland (Hopefully!!!)

Hi all!!!! It's a pleasure to be a part of the site!!

I'm really looking forward to taking part in the discussions, and to begin to tap in to all the knowledge that is on this forum!!!

I am from Canada!! Saskatchewan is one of the prairie provinces in the middle of the country... no mountains, (no hills even :P), just wheat fields as far as the eye can see!! :P Though it does have some of the nicest skies you'll ever see... (we sometimes call it the Land of the Living Skies...) I'm in the big city right now for school, but I'm originally from a smaller city (20,000-ish), where my family still lives (there's 9 kids in our family!!)...

I'm just finishing my fourth and final year at the University in Saskatoon. I convocate in May and I'm hoping to have a job lined up in Switzerland by then!! It's going to be a lot of work looking up visa info, work permit info, etc. etc. but I'm definetely up for it! And this forum's network will be a big help for that!! I've already read through a few of the posts and found them to be extremely helpful.. !

My reason for wanting to move to Switzerland has to do with a lil' old girl who lives in Rotkreuz (canton Zug) . I thought I came from a big family until I met hers!! There's 13 kids in her family!!! I could go on and on about her, but I'll try to summarize... :P I met her in Canada four years ago, while she was working with a family that I happened to know. We kept in touch, I went to visit her in the summers twice, and she's been back to Canada three times now... Anyway, the long and the short of the story is that we're planning to get married next summer... We eventually got around to the "talking about the future" talks, and she said that she would like to speak Swiss-German to the kids one day. I was thinking about that a lot, and personally I don't think I could be able to come home from work every day, and not have a clue what my own kids were saying...

So that's one motivation for wanting to live in Switzerland for a while, (to learn the language). The other reason sort of has to do with differences between Switzerland and Canada. We grew up in different worlds, and as a result we have different viewpoints on many many things... and these things, no matter how small, could cause problems and tension in the future, so I think it would be good for me to live in Switzerland for a while, to learn about the people and the culture, to better understand where my future wife is coming from...

So ya, that's me, and that's my story in a (very large) nutshell!! (Sorry! :P)

Dude! When you get there LEARN Swiss German! Once you know German it's like learning ultra slang. SERIOUSLY! Also, you should speak English with the kids as well. By the time they are inschool they should be fluent in English as well as Swiss German.

Just learn Swiss German man! after GErman of course. Get her and her relatives to teach you both at the same time. Learn the German phrases and then how to say it in Swiss German. "Ich gehe nach hause" OR Ich ga hi in Swiss German.

This is the solution.
