Dutchy coming to Switzerland for love

Hi I'm Thijs but if you want you can call me Dez since most of you will have a hard time figuring out how to pronounce the former.
As the title mentions I'm Dutch and currently I still live there... BUT since I just finished my last year of school and have no job in Holland yet it seems this is a good time for me to try and take me relationship with my Swiss girlfriend to the next level.
we've been together for about 2 years now and against all odds made it work so far. up till now we've seen each other about every 2 months and I'm glad to say the love is still as strong, maybe even stronger than in those first few months.
So I've decided to take my chances and move to Switzerland (Basel area). The real moving will probably start in a month or so, when I have wrapped up al the administrative stuff that comes with something like this.
I'm both very exited and nervous about it. Exited since I'll be able to spend so much more time with my love and nervous because according to what I've read here I'll have a hard time finding a job and fitting in in general (my German language skills are not to great and my Swiss-German are nonexistent)
But yeah, it'll probably all work out fine... Right?

Hi Thijs,

good luck, Basel is not that far from holland you could still drive back in a few hours.
this is how we started our experience in Switzerland and ventured later further into vaud and Zug areas.

I m sure you will like the outdoors live.

Re: Dutchy coming to Switzerland for love

Hi Thijs,

Welcome to Basel! It sure sounds wonderful to be fresh out of school and taking on the world by coming to Basel for your Swiss GF. Sometimes I wish I was still in that stage... then again I think about all the fun stuff that is coming my way now that I am old (36)...

Just curious, do you have a B-permit, or do you hope to get one with a new job? And what kind of job would you be interested in?

My wife's Dutch uncle married a Swiss wife, and they are still together after 40-odd years. So it looks like Swiss and Dutch people are compatible (like Swiss and German, Swiss and English, etc).

Kind regards,
Henk Johan
