New to Basel

Hello all,

I have recently moved here to Basel from Edinburgh, Scotland, I am here for a internship in an architects office and will only be here for a short while. Just happened to stumble upon this forum and thought I would give it a try. Thought it might be a good way of finding out social things to do in Basel .

What architect firm are you with is it the famous one? My cousin is an architect and he keeps raving about Switzerland and what a mecca it is for architecture.

Welcome to Basel! I've heart from some friends that Basel downtown is really interesting for all the different architectural styles and i would recommend to Lugano too, where Mr. Botta does almost everything there

Re: New to Basel

We've moved from Edinburgh to Basel too!! Enjoy your stay here - work placements are a great way to get to know a new culture and better than studying abroad because you get paid AND you don't have to study/take exams!!.

And in my case I got a new husband and a new country to live in .

I am with a medium sized company call bauburo insitu it is in gundeldinger feld they mainly work in Basel so not a big internationally known one like Herzog & de Meuron. I didn't know before I came here that it would be filled with so much modern architecture I obviously knew about le corbusier and was so excited when I saw he was on the CHF10 note .

Thank for the tip whitepard I will look into it!

suzybg yeah thats what I am thinking about the experience and I get hands on experience aswell here which is nice. Aw thats nice.

Bexie, thats good I hope to find some social things to do on here, its quite difficult to meet people when you work all day and everyone in the office speaks German they all try to speak a bit of English to me if they can which is nice.

Re: New to Basel

Thank you for the invite! I hopefully will be able to come along as long as work doesn't get in the way but I am sure it will be fine they are really flexible.
