Canadian -> Winterthur (Zürich)

Hey everyone!

So I'm new to Switzerland, and apparently this is a good place to say hi. I'm a Canadian mechanical engineering student doing a one year internship in Winterthur before heading back to Canada to do my last year of my degree.

I love board, card, and computer games, and haven't found any people to play them with like I did back in Canada. If anyone is interested in creating a meetup, or knows of a shop where I can drop in and play board/card games, send me a message! I'd love to get more of a social life here, as sitting home every day or hanging out with my two (wow two!) people I know here is not always the best thing to do.

A lot of people have described me as "not like other guys," which I guess is good.. I'm a very considerate person who loves to have a good time and hates being too serious. If you can take a light-hearted joke (and a terrible pun here or there), I'd probably get along with you well

So yeah... TL;DR: New to Winterthur, looking for people to hang out with. If you want to meet up and grab a beer, just ask, I don't bite

Welcome to the forum.

Have a look under activities / social. I seem to remember sometimes there are people getting together to play games...

Gluck,

I'm a lifetime gamer, and I travel back and forth from US to Winterthur. I'm here for the next 8 days and will play nearly anything and am thrilled to find someone who wants to play.

I play Dominion a bit now, partly because I can get non-gamer types to play. And I can play at dominion.isotropic.org without bringing my game with me.
Would love to play Twilight Struggle or whatever you have.

Shoot me an email using markandersen @ alum.mit.edu. Please.
-Mark

Hi Gluck. Have you discovered the great game shop in Zurich called "Rien ne va plus"? Staff seem to know everything about almost every type of game. They used to have a Games Ship event on one of the ferry boats, but unfortunately was not continued. We love board games, but have two young kids, so not too much time for it anymore.

Enjoy your time in Switzerland!

Re: Canadian -> Winterthur (Zürich)

I have found a board game group that meets on Tuesday nights in Zurich - they have a bunch of games and are a pretty friendly crowd! If anyone is interested in joining me, feel free to ask.

Thanks for all the warm wishes everyone

Hey big guy, if you don't mind me asking --- who are you working for?

I'm from Saskatchewan, looking to finish up my Mech. degree in April, and I'm looking to find a job for about a year in Switzerland...

I'd appreciate just a tip!! Enjoy your stay in Switzerland -- what a country!!

If you fancy something sporting like then I am sure you could teach me a thing or two about skiing which I love to do but being a late comer to the sport I don't try to pretend that I am in the skill level of Canadians.

You will notice I also am in Winterthur

Did you say board and card games????

*drooool*

My husband and I are definitely in for something like this. He's Canadian and I lived there for a while as well. We're also happy to host something like this and are fairly close by in Bassersdorf (15 mins by train).
