Hi from a Swiss-born American from Zurich

Hello everybody. I used to be a member and wrote a few posts in this forum years ago - however, I cannot for the life of me remember my username, and my old email address I used at the time was deleted ages ago. I wasn't particularly active, and maybe a little juvenile, so I hope the Moderators won't mind a "double"-account - I'd like to return with a fresh start, or something like that

I was born in Switzerland to American parents and have lived in Zurich all my life. I'm currently studying at the university.
Maybe I can give some advice - since I've got a little of "both" perspectives, Swiss and foreign - and get some as well (US tax issues and fun like that). Also, it's probably no news here that Zurich is harsh terrain for people looking for a friendly chat with (quasi-)strangers, so easing in online might help.

Hi and welcome.

I would be interested to know if you attended local schools here or international school. There have been so many discussions about options for higher education here for non native German speakers yet few members have first hand experience.

Good luck with your studies.

Re: Hi from a Swiss-born American from Zurich

Thanks for the welcome - I attended the local schools here. First "Kinderkrippe" (a day nursery), from 3 years onwards. My mother wanted me to learn the local language as quickly as possible. Then Kindergarten, Primarschule, Gymnasium etc., the usual Zurich system.

I know some people who went to international schools and used to be jealous of them because it seemed so much more interesting - however, most of those friends have experienced difficulties with the language barrier and making new friends outside of school.

But I guess there's a thread for this somewhere, I'll have a look.
