New Irish Arrival :-)

Hello to all users of EF Switzerland.

My name is Keith and I am from Kildare (just outside of Dublin) and I arrived last week in Zurich.

I have traveled and lived abroad before for some short periods but I was living and working in Ireland for the past 2 years or so. Through my job I met a Swiss girl who was living in Ireland and so now I have packed my bags and left it all to be here with her! Yeah I know, maybe it's a bit mad, but sure why not :-)

I have PM'ed a few people before regarding jobs but I decided not to give a formal introduction until I was here, so now that I am here I decided to.

I am currently living temporarily with my girlfriend in Dietlikon, and I am really a complete newbie here. I eventually need to find a place to live, to register and most importantly, a job! It's pretty early days so hopefully things will fall into place.

Anyway, I would really appreciate any tips or advice, and perhaps eventually to meet up with some of the local expats (Irish included )

Thanks for reading and looking forward to knowing you all,

Keith

What is your skillset? Most people on the forum are either
in IT, Finance, or Biotechnology.

Perhaps you might make a connection by mentioning this.

Hi Kieth,

if you are into either of the GAA sports the Zurich team is having a fun/training day to celebrate the end of the season on Staurday. Could be a good chance for you to meet some other Irish folk. Let me know if you would like the details.

Re: New Irish Arrival :-)

Greetings to you both!

@hollidayG - Well, I have a varied range of skills but my main skills are in Sound (I studied Sound Engineering at uni). So I have some experience with Live Sound and post production. My previous job in Ireland was in Sales and marketing for a language company. I think that the biggest obstacle so far is the language barrier. I speak basic German but a lot of jobs require pretty good German even if the primary language in use is English. But thank you for the advice.

@Lou - That sounds really interesting, I am not sure if I will be free on Saturday, it depends on the times etc. but I would really appreciate some details nonetheless.

Regards,

Keith

If you want to continue in that field, here is a company
that I once applied to:

Hi Keith,
Welcome to the forum. I moved here in April from Dublin to be with my Swiss boyfriend. I hope you settle in as well as I did.
