Hi all fellow forumers!

Hi all.

My name is Rania. I am 24, from the UK. I recently moved to Zürich with my boyfriend who is doing a Masters at the University. As I'm still unemployed, I have met very few people and would like to make some friends. I've been looking for a job in Zürich for a few months now and as yet have been unsuccessful. My poor German skills are bringing me down. I guess that A-level was useless after all!
I lived in the Wiedikon area, if anybody lives close by I'd love to meet for a cup of coffee!!

Happy forum-ing!

Rania

Re: Hi all fellow forumers!

G'day Rania, welcome to the EF & Zurich!

I'm sure you'll have a great time once you've settled in a bit more, getting onto the Social Events thread will help with meeting people!

Also, the more people you know, the greater your chance of getting a job ... as personal contacts can get you a job far more easily, as long as they're the right people!

Re: Hi all fellow forumers!

And a warm welcome from me too. Did you mean A level with regard to CERF ( Common European Reference Framework for Languages ) ?

Normally German Proficiency at B1 would be required.

Have a look at Tauschen am Fluss ( exchange on the river at nearby Wipkingen GZ ) and you can pick up German lessons for exchange ( I received German lessons for pet sitting, PC / Internet fixing etc. ).

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

Your experiences are common to many trailing partners as they seek work and struggle to find a circle of friends. EF can and will help you. Keep an eye on the events calendars as there are often activities in Zurich with friendly and open people.

Good luck.

Re: Hi all fellow forumers!

Thanks for the warm welcomes :-) I will certainly keep an eye on the social events page.

Thanks for the Tauschen website, thats such a good idea! I have been looking for German classes but they are so expensive! My A-level is the British equivalent of the IB exams in high school. Its been a few years since I spoke German last so I've forgotten it all!!

Many thanks again for the help, and the lovely messages.
